Recommended Posts

Ok, I guess I should clarify. I'm not complaining per say, but.. of COURSE I would like it to be quicker. I'm quite happy with -65lb gone for good! :)

Remember the slower you take it off the longger it will stay off.

I don't think there is any specific data that supports this. If you are developing the right habits, exercising to make certain you aren't losing a ton of muscle, the speed of weight loss shouldn't influence long term success.

Most dieticians agree with this.

There is tons of info on this fact.

In the past when I have dieted I found this to be true.

Also the more you weigh the quicker the weight will come off.

You can see this with the light weights versus the heavy weights.

We have the same surgery date(8/24/07) and I lost just half of what you lost.

How much did you weigh to begin with?

I think that's extremely quick!

Remember the slower you take it off the longger it will stay off.

I eat pretty good and I walk 5-6 miles a day.

You must have a secret!

Please tell!

I started out at 298.2lbs and am now 227.0lbs! My secret is that I cut my carbs-I don't eat any bread, Pasta, or rice. I also measure my food-It takes me 20-30 min to eat 3 ounces. I have only had one fill of 1.2. I also watch my sodium intake. I eat (3) 3 ounce meals a day and normally have 2 Snacks a day which consist of 1/4 cup of cashews or peanuts or a stick of sharp cheddar chez or string chez.

:)

Chris,

Good job on the weight loss. I'm going to be banded 12-3-07 and I too have thoughts that I will not lose the weight like all those that did. But these are great words of encouragement. Congratulations to everyone,. I hope I can post my weight loss like you all. I've had thoughts of gb vs. banding, but banding is much safer I think in the long run. So, here goes I'm starting my full liquid diet Nov. 24. Wish me luck!

ok- I can see how if you are heavier to begin with the more weight will come off at first- agreed but I still don't see how a blanket statement of "if you take it off slowly, you will keep it off" is correct.

If you are losing fat>> muscle it shouldn't matter about the rate of weight loss from a physiology standpoint.

For some people, if they lose weight at a slower rate- it allows them to mentally adjust to the changes they are needing to make; possibly they will lose more fat than muscle (not always true) and by maintaining muscle mass be more efficient at burning calories than if they lost equal fat/muscle with fast weight loss.

For those who are building muscle with resistance, exercise, adequate Protein intake- fast weight loss shouldn't be any less effective long term.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
