Pouch Reset /Pouch Test

Recommended Posts

Hi, I’m looking into trying the pouch reset/pouch test as I have put on weight (5yrs post op) and feel I’m going backwards. I know some people don’t believe it works but I’m going to give it go. Does anyone have any advise or tips they can offer?

Hi,

I would suggest that before you pouch reset, pantry reset. If the foods that snuck in your diet and wrecked it are still around, you'll probably continue to eat them after you reset, making it an exercise in futility.

I'm new but I used to reset every month to reevaluate my choices and abandon things I didn't need.

Drink A LOT of Water and fluids (64+ oz) to kick it off and go back to basics as much as possible.

e.g. leafy vegetable and lean Protein only meals, no eating and drinking, don't drink things with cals, lower carb intake, no sugars for a while (fruit also), salads with minimal dressing, distinct meal times, no grazing/snacking

Good luck & welcome back

pouch reset is a fad diet and doesn’t work. liquids and mushy food slide through our pouches so just consuming them won’t do or prove anything. And 5 days is not enough time to make lasting changes, diet or otherwise.

Just clean out your cupboards, stop drinking with meals, weigh and track every morsel you eat, and most importantly eat dense Protein first followed by non-starchy vegetables.

Your weight gain is most likely due to eating sugar, processed food, simple carbs, junk food, Desserts - you know why.

Stick with meat and veggies only for 5-7 days and that will help curb your cravings and get you back on track.

I'm gonna start a "Pouch Reset" on Jan. 2nd. ;) (pssst, it's basically a low-ish fat Atkins/low carb)

It's going back to my surgeon's rules:

1. 64+oz fluids + ALL supplements/vitamins

2. No drinking with meals 30/30

3. Lean protein first 2-3oz per meal + 1-2oz veggies per meal = DO NOT EXCEED 1 cup by volume, so if only the Protein fits in the cup, then no veggies at that meal.

4. Aim for 600-800cals per day (60-70g lean protein, <20g net carbs (from veggies-no fruit), <35g fat

(Oh and I'm gonna eat that within a 16:8 to 18:6 IF window, just cuz I love to complicate life...) hehe

I’m on my 4th day of the 10 day pouch reset, it’s been good for me. I’m feeling better and trying to break the bad habits I picked up. I down 4lbs. I know it’s just Water weight, it makes me happy that I’m putting my needs first.

You cannot permanently stretch your pouch. Your stomach is an elastic organ. So, yes, it can be pushed to holding more than it should, but it shrinks back to normal size after the meal is processed.

The only thing the "pouch reset" really does is get you to slow down and recognize that you only need a certain amount of food to actually be satisfied.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
