Nausea instead of Hunger?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 10/14. I was never nauseous before surgery. Now, things are different. I don’t feel hungry anymore, but when it’s close to a time for me to eat (for example when I wake up in the morning before I eat breakfast), I feel nauseous. Same if I have a late lunch - I will feel nauseous until I eat something. After I eat, nausea goes away. Problem is, I don’t have much appetite, nothing is appealing when you’re nauseous so it’s hard to force myself to eat a few bites to relieve the nausea. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Tips to relieve the nausea?

I’ve had a similar experience. I was sleeved in August. This has gotten better with time. Also I found I needed to eat something every 3-4 hours and that helped too.

The only experience i have had with nausea was today. I am almost 3 weeks post op and today is day 4 without a BM.. well was day 4 LOL.. But after the restroom break, i was nauseous from going to the bathroom. I thought that was really weird.

You are probably waiting too long between meals and the nausea is a symptom of low blood sugar. Try eating at specific times before you start feeling yucky

I didn’t know nausea can be a symptom of low blood sugar. I have been trying to limit my sugar intake, so that’s definitely a possibility. I’ll try eating at more regular intervals.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
