Horrible constipation with the preop liquid diet making me gain :(

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I started my liquid preop diet four days ago. I'm very upset because I've been following the diet very strictly. Since yesterday I've been experiencing horrible Constipation pain and this morning I check my scale and I gained 2 pounds. How is that even possible. My surgury is next thursday and I need to lose weight to shrink my liver. I'm so discourage. Has anyone experience constipation with the liquid preop diet and gaining weight? Any advice is truly welcomed. Thank you.

What's your Water intake look like? Are you getting more than 64 oz a day, upwards of 128 oz? If not... you need to be. The human body needs 90-110 oz of water a day. This helps with many many things, including preventing constipation.

I’m on the pre-op too and have this problem. I drink a cup of Smooth Move tea every other night. Works great!

Careful, check in with your physician on how often a stimulant laxative can be used. I can cause issues also if taken in excess

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
