Scheduled for a WLS consultation next month

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am new here and wanted to mention that I am scheduled for a consultation appointment regarding weight loss surgery next month. I have been thinking about this non-stop for several days, going from yes I want to get it if approved to no I rather try again to lose weight on my own. Seems that U am gravitating to the gastric sleeve surgery over the other types. Somethings I have learned online have bothered me, not so much with the surgery itself but what may eventually come after. I am particularly worried about having excess skin and the possibility of regaining weight back after losing it, along with nausea and vomiting. Or even reaching a plateau of weight loss where I won't be able to go further. I had my gallbladder removed almost a month ago and seemed to heal pretty quickly with my appetite back in full force after 1 week. I am a 287 lb, 5'4" tall male early 40s, Been going back and forth on this issue for about 2 weeks. Any thoughts, advice or suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

You came to the right place! I understand your concerns but no matter how you lose weight, you may have excess skin.

Let me mention I’m 6 weeks post op having the sleeve done. I’ve lost 25 pounds since the surgery and 15 inches on my whole body. The only nausea I had was right after the surgery from the anesthesia. The first few weeks went by fast. I just kept reminding myself it won’t last forever. I was able to eat a little bit of everything on thanksgiving. I don’t feel deprived because I am the one who chose to do this. After years of not succeeding on traditional diets, I decided this was what I wanted to do. I’m 44 and felt like this was the right time. I have an extremely supportive husband and friends who have all been cheering me on along the way.

The bottom line is you need to be ready. You and only you can choose this decision for yourself! Good luck to you!

Welcome to the site. It's a very supportive and friendly community and you can pick up a lot of info, as well. Just remember, we are all random people on the internet who do not even play doctors on tv. Use your common sense and if you're not sure, run the question by your team. They are the source of your "official" playbook.

The things you listed above are common to every single surgery. Not everyone gets them, but some do. You really can't use any of those criteria to decide which option to choose. You're doing the right thing by researching now. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
