it'sonlythefirststep 141 Posted November 25, 2018 from the hospital alone for one night stay I was billed over $65,000. Anesthesia I was billed $8,000. Surgeon’s Bill was over $6,000. Then I was billed separately for blood work which was $3,
it'sonlythefirststep 141 Posted November 25, 2018 Plus the surgeon had 2 assistance and I was billed for each of them. One was $11,000 and one was $13,000. Fight this because he told me that he would have one assistant not 2.

JessaK 59 Posted November 25, 2018 I went to a private hospital that specializes in Bariatrics. My insurance covered it all because I had met my maximum OOP for the year. We reviewed the statement though a couple weeks back and they billed my insurance 45k. That was for one month in the hospital. I would do some research in your area for facilities that work with cash payers.
Frustr8 7,886 Posted November 25, 2018 Dr Needlman charged $5000, the hospital( OSU) charged $14,550 so there is almost $20,000. And a sleeve is $1000-1500 less. Wouldn't,it be nice if they gave =early, payer. discount?
sideeye 1,440 Posted November 25, 2018 Before you look into self-financing, check whether the ACA plans cover bariatric surgery in your state. It may be worth dropping an employer-backed plan and joining one of the ACA plans for the year, once you've worked out the costs. The ACA plans seem to have decided on bariatric coverage on a state-by-state basis, and some of those may have changed over the years, so make sure you're checking for insurance year 2019 in your state. I believe enrollment is open until Dec 15, but don't wait until the last minute - do your research now and make a decision soon, sometimes the sites get overwhelmed by last-minute signups. 2 texasnewf and Hrsnjs reacted to this

CrankyMagpie 509 Posted November 25, 2018 The price varies a lot. Insurance didn't cover mine, and I got mine done at a Center of Excellence for somewhere in the ballpark of $11,500-15,000. (There was a huge billing error, so I still don't know exactly how much it will end up being. Yeah, almost two months later. I'm pissed, believe me.) Those scary-high prices you're seeing that they billed someone's insurance? Yeah, those showed up on my statement, too, but there are often discounts for people who are doing self-pay, where they cut those numbers in half, or even much lower. Also, if you're willing to travel, apparently there are much cheaper surgeries available in Las Vegas and in Mexico. 1 texasnewf reacted to this
