I'm considering buying a few Medifast products to get me through the pureed stage (oatmeal, soup). I know they are expensive but they are portioned with a good amount of Protein and a bit of Fiber, which I am lacking and the convenience might be worth it for me for a few weeks. Have any of you tried them?

check the ingredients and make sure they Protein they are using is not soy protein. We were warned to stay away from soy protein. I don't know why, I didn't really question it.

Why don't you make some veggie Soups and then add your Protein as you go along and puree it. I am not sure about oatmeal at this stage. We seem to be on the exact time frame, and I think oatmeal is in the next stage of soft foods but I could be wrong. I also meant to tell you I had an egg yesterday too LOL for the first time, it was amazing, though I used mozz cheese instead of cheddar.

Why are we cautioned away from soy Proteins? I’m not sure I’ve heard that before now. Curious

Best egg ever, right? My NUT told me oatmeal is ok as long as I thin it a bit with milk.

Some use soy, some have whey. I was not advised to stay away from soy, in fact tofu is on my suggested menu plan (yuck). I try to avoid too much soy because I have PCOS, but I would only be using the Medifast once or twice a day for a few weeks so I'm not too concerned.

I use Medifast. Their chocolate shakes are the tastiest of all I've tried (I've tried a lot)

There is noting in my plan against soy. I developed a whey intolerance post op, so I needed to find alternatives, and soy was one of them.

I'm not sure why but it is in BIG BOLD LETTERS on our list, no Protein that is made from soy protein Isolate. whey Protein Isolate only. I didn't question it because there is SO MUCH to learn and do, I'm just trying to follow the plan given. However I googled it just now and there are a lot of hits about it.. including causing Weight gain... "It contains a chemical known as goitrogen, which can affect the hormones needed to boost your metabolism. This can lead to weight problems and other concerns." https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=Jr_4W63RCseSjwSChJPwBA&q=why+soy+protein+isolate+is+bad+for+you&oq=why+soy+protein&gs_l=psy-ab.1.2.0l3j0i22i30l7.5749.11366..20053...1.0..0.98.1491.16......0....1..gws-wiz.....0..35i39j0i131j0i20i263.uPvjmkI9Bow

I don't think tofu is a problem. Its specifically spells out Soy Protein Isolate. I think the problem is in that form of soy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
