What is happening?!? Dumping or Revolt?

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I am 1 week and 1 day post-op. It's Thanksgiving and as my son and hubby are enjoying dinner with family, I sit here wondering what is going on. Like seriously WTF?!?... I am doing everything right food-wise... only the best Proteins and, sugar free puddings with whey powder, bariatric branded Soups, and drinks with powder - absolutely no sugars & no fats. But I am having what I feel like must be dumping syndrome after anything with whey Protein in it. The only thing my tummy has not rejected is fat free cottage cheese with pepper and a little salt.

I was doing great meeting my protein and Water goals in my first week, I tried some greek yogurt and whey powder 2 days ago and it didn't sit well. Now, I have been having a tough time getting my meals and water intake back to where it was. Maybe this is all normal and I just need to chill out... my surgeon and dietitian made sure to scare me good about dehydration so I am concerned lol.

I will put a call in to the office tomorrow but thought perhaps someone has experienced this and can share some insight.

Peace, love and smaller pants,

Cooper's Mum

I was unable to tolerate whey Protein as well. My fiance's ex wife (we're friends, oddly enough) had bypass 3 months before I did and she recommended Peptipro Gelatin. I'm not sure if you can get it in Ohio, but I order it online here in Australia. It's not whey, but it's easier to digest for me. It dissolves completely in Water and no gluggy feel like whey powders.

Read the ingredients on that protein and tell me if it says "Isolate" or "Concentrate"... if it says Concentrate, then that's more than likely your problem, Whey Concentrate has high levels of lactose in it, because it's simply a milk concentrate. Isolate has little to no lactose in it.

Being only a week out, there is a lot of healing related issues with foods that you'll come up against, most of these will ease as you heal up.

I agree, a week out your tummy is going to sensitive no matter what.

I was however intolerant of whey Protein isolate post surgery. I seem to be past it now, but it's all just a matter of trial and error.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
