I take opiate blockers how bad is the pain

Recommended Posts

I am currently on methadone therefore no pain meds will work for me. I made it through a cesarean but it was so painful I swore I'd never have another child no joke, is this something that will be a major problem or something one can handle? I'm having the sleeve

I did have opioids, but not often or large does. I would ask for Torodol (sp) in the hospital. It is an NSAID but since it doesn't go through the digestive track it is ok for WLS patients. That combined with tylenol should make it manageable.

I had bypass, not sleeve but I had almost no pain at all. I was only ever on paracetamol (which is the Australian version of Tylenol) in hospital and nothing when I got home 2 days later. The surgeon prescribed tramadol for me but I didn't even pick it up from the pharmacy. Fingers crossed you get through pain free as well. And if not, then just remember it's short term pain for the rest of your life being healthier. Good luck.

Talk to your doctor. Dont think that just because someone else did good with tylenol you will, too. I had a TAP block and still was in torturous amounts of pain. My surgeon is highly experienced and probably trained many of the other surgeons now practicing. My daughter had surgery and took only one dose of narcotic pain medications afterwards. I had surgery and took roxicodone almost around the clock for 3 weeks. I was still in so much pain I couldn't roll over in bed without help. Your hope may be to not use opioid medications, but you better go in with a backup plan.

Ask your Dr about exparil. I didn't even know what it was until after I woke up and saw it on one of my medical bracelets. It's a nerve block they can inject near your incisions that numbs them for 4 to 5 days. Having no incision pain those first few days made my recovery so much easier than I was expecting.

Omg Thankyou!!! I really hope they have this at the hospital I'm going to. I'll find out tomorrow. I just looked this medication up and it looks perfect for my situation.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
