To Chew or Not to Chew (vitamins)

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I need some in sight on vitamin patches. What does everyone else prefer? My surgeon gave us a list of Vitamins to take the rest of our lives and they where all chewable. I bought some before surgery and tried them. I had to spit them out. I can not handle the taste. So I just purchased a package of Vitamin Patches off of the bariatric pal site. Anyone else use patches? Do they work well? I'm just concerned I want get the vitamins I need. I'm post op day 6 and I feel weak as it is. Thanks for any input.

I got sick of the chewable Vitamin taste, too. I did them for the first 3.5 months and then asked my surgeon if there was a capsule option. She said she was fine with me switching and recommended the Bariatric Fusion one a day capsules. I take two every morning. Perhaps that may be an option for you?

My doc says I can switch to capsules in a month or two once I am ok to swallow those giant pills, so I will go back to my GNC Mega Women's. The chewables, even the baratric ones, don't seem to have the best profile.

And I am Happy Happy Happy with my Spring Valley Prenatal from Wal-Mart, reasonable price, not large sized, Just 1. a day. Beats those nasty flavored twice daily dudes, half of them don't have Iron and the other minor goodies. Sure I get weird looks in the Vitamin aisle, but how do they know I don't have a pregnant grand-daughter or great grand-daughter?, I am THAT AGE!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
