6 days post op . I need help!

Recommended Posts

Hi bypass lady

it does get better - this is the toughest patch by a country mile!

The stitch is likely to be the gas they pump 8nto your abdominal cavity to separate your organs so they can do the surgery more easily. It does get absorbed, but it helps if you are up and about walking around, moving that gas.

Are you drinking Water? Way more important than food just now. Your best mantra just now - sip sip sip, walk walk walk.

And dont forget, a general anaesthetic messes with your emotions. It will pass! And then the good stuff happens! Just stick to your programme...

6 days in and I’m feeling regretful. I am finding this so hard. I still have discomfort on my left side, it feels like i have a stitch. I’m crying a lot and I wonder when this will get better. I try to be positive but I think I’m scared. Please help me!

You'll be fine. This is all normal. Yes, surgery is going to hurt for a while. At 6 days, I wouldn't be worried about any mild discomfort, it's the really painful things you need to watch for.

If they gave you an incentive spirometer, *use it* every hour... It helps more than you would imagine.

Walk walk walk walk walk walk walk. Every hour you should be doing some walking.

Sip sip sip sip sip... you should be sipping Water pretty much non-stop (except for before/after your meals).

Keep all the reasons you wanted the surgery in your mind. This is temporary.

I was an emotional, regretful mess 3 days out while sitting in front of my family at a restaurant ordering yummy good while I had my dumb boring shake to drink.
This too shall pass.
It's part of the process.
You are stronger than what your mind makes you believe.
Hang in there, for me I started feeling better at about day 5-6.

It does get better sweetie, we have all been there and like Biddie zz said, the left side pain is most likely gas so move as much as you can...my gas was bad probably longer than most, then one day it was just gone.

This will pass soon and each day gets better and better.

Hang in there sweetie, you got this ((Hugs))

btw: I was emotional and crying in the hospital my last night there and the morning before I went home, but that didn't last long...Once I got home I just concentrated on healing, getting my Protein and Water intake in and that kept me pretty occupied.

I was in constant pain for about 2 weeks straight, then suddenly it stopped.

You will get better, I may take a little time because this was a major surgery.

Get well soon, congrats and

Safe Journey!

Awwwww. Don’t be scared!

It gets better, we promise!

Yes, it hurts in the beginning.

Yes, many of us were piles of crying, blubbering fools the first few weeks...myself included. You will get better, your emotions will level off.

As others said, do your best to stay hydrated, walk as much as you can, and rest when you need to!

Hugs 🤗

I hate to sound like a broken record but I agree with the people above me. I had a rough start, I was in the hospital twice just after surgery within the first 2 weeks. I gained IV Fluid weight, so that depressed me, and was in a hell of alot more pain than I wish i was in. I had regretful thoughts, like you, but I promise you it does get better. The pain, for me, went completely away within 2 1/2 weeks or so. And as much as I wanted to punch the world for constantly telling me "walk walk walk, get your liquids and Proteins, walk walk walk" (lol), its so true. Gas pain is THE WORST! Walking will help that and your bowels and soon enough you'll be pooping and farting like a pro without pain.

It's a major surgery we've all gone through and that you've gone through...recovery can suck...but I promise the benefits far outweigh the struggles. Think of the health benefits alone ! By my 8 weeks post op I was un-diagnosed with my type-2 Diabetes that I was diagnosed with April of 2017. My a1c was at 13.6 and it's now sitting at a 5.1. I don't need blood pressure meds anymore and I haven't had heartburn in god knows how long.

You got this! and we're here for support :)

Oh how this was me two weeks ago. I had the same pain on my left side and wondered if it was normal. It was.... I walked in the house as much as possible but when I needed to rest I did. I found myself having to take my pain meds at least once a day. Now I have no pain, off all pain meds and getting very well. Just remember its a part of the process. Hang in there!!!

You aren't alone! I was sleeved on 10/16 and at my one month post-op visit i told my doctor i wish i could have been sedated the first week after surgery!!

It is really tough. I drank 0 Protein Shakes but i used Isopure flavorless Protein Powder in my drinks and Soup. Everything had to be at room temperature. My stomach hurt. It does get better. By the third week it's like someone flipped a switch and I had my energy back, soreness was gone, and i was 20lbs down.

Goodluck!

Hi all, Im 4 days post op (11/29/18). I had my first cry today. I need to take blood thinner injections 2x a day for the next 10 days. This mornings injection was particularly painful and set me off. However, my brother came home with pizza from our favorite spot. It smelled heavenly. But I had to remember that I worked this hard already and I came so far. Im excited for the new recipes I can try when I get to the soft food stage. Stay strong, this is a life changing event. 👍🏼

The Injections post op were not fun....I feel your pain. Crying is something I did plenty of for a few weeks post op. Keep up your courage and good attitude and you’ll do great! See you on the losers bench!👍

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
