Mischievous1 6 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi, I'm new to the site. Banded April 4, 2008. Just had my third fill due to a stressful move. I have PCOS and has anyone's cycle returned to a normal 28 day cycle after losing weight? Mine is pretty regular now and has been for the past 6+ months....not a perfect 28 day cycle but I get a period every month now! Which is VERY odd for me I have NEVER had a regular period-can't say I really like it either...
bandster_1007 1 Posted October 12, 2008 yes my ademyosis and endometriosis caused extreme lower back pain. that was my main complaint. it literally felt like my back was splitting in half. i'm not doing too well after my hysterectomy. i developed a hemotoma and lost 1/2 of my bodies blood to it. it was the size of a canteloupe and my doctor thought it would drain so he left it. i still have it. i had the hyst on 9/22. so, i go tomorrow to drain it with a physical drain. it is not as big, but it is still painful. bandster_1007 1 Posted October 16, 2008 guess what!!!! i'm sure that this could be from healing but my doctor told me that after i had my hysterectomy i should start to lose weight at a much better pace. i've lost 5 lbs. and i'm unfilled. i'm not hungry as much and i do not have all those crazy cravings. it is great!! (i hope it keeps up)....

Ange123 0 Posted October 18, 2008 hi I was banded June of 2007 and i can say today the weight loss has been very slow but the key words are (weight loss): the way i see it it may be slow but at least it is coming off: I to have PCOS and Endo i have had a hystorectomy and do not have any ovaries either: Keep on keeping on all of you, as the weight took a life time to get there it willl take a while to come off: slow and steady wins the race
kbf1 0 Posted October 23, 2008 i have PCOS and am seriously considering the lapband - however my GP said I could accomplish the same results without spending the money if i was just more dedicated to a lifestyle change - would you agree?
Ange123 0 Posted October 23, 2008 well in a way yes but it is painfully slow and you give up and end up gaining all the weight back again i did i cant remember how many times!!1 For me the lapband has been great as i have coontinued to loose weight and not gain it back again. I do disagree with your doctor ask another for more advice but i do disagree really as it has worked for me how ever much slower than alot of other people here: A personal struggle made easier with the lap band as a very helpful tool that you need to be dedicated to as a rule i never spend any money on any thing i am not going to get value out of and i definaltely have got value for money here best of luck
Sunwyse 1 Posted October 23, 2008 Depends what you are looking for. Could you lose the weight on your own? yes. Could you keep it off on your own? probably not, or you would have done that by now, right? This is the thing, most people seem to think we are fat because we are lazy, stupid and don't bother to eat right. Some combination of those 3 anyway. The truth of the matter is, we can lose weight and we do, all the time. We just can't seem to keep it off when we do. Why?? No-one knows. Lots of theories on that one, but no one knows for sure. At the end of the day, I'm the one who has to live inside this fat suit, not the doctor. Its up to me what I want to do with it. Same goes for you. Oh and what is he saying - that by having a lapband put in you've some how sold out?? Sorry, your doctor needs to do more research. Latest studies are showing that dieting doesn't work. TulipStar 2 Posted October 25, 2008 i have PCOS and am seriously considering the lapband - however my GP said I could accomplish the same results without spending the money if i was just more dedicated to a lifestyle change - would you agree? I don't agree. My dr said that PCOS patients have 3x harder when trying to lose weight because of the hormone imbalance.I have lost 100lbs before on my own, only to gain it back. The lapband will stop me from yo-yo'ing which is not good for your body!
ladybugchaser 0 Posted October 31, 2008 Hey girl! I don't really agree with your doctor. No offense...but is it a man? People (even lady docs) who haven't first hand experienced PCOS will never fully be able to relate or direct you clearly with YOUR SPECIFIC CASE. It really depends on what TYPE of PCOS you have and HOW SEVERE your PCOS is. If it's a milder case, sure...you might be able to do it yourself. But if it's anything other than rather mild...it will be a daily battle. Ex. My doc told me the same thing actually..that if I just changed my lifestyle, I could be fine. NOT TRUE. I have to eat so significantly restricted and eat my food in a certain order to lose a little bit of weight...that's just not realistic. Listen to your instinct and use the docs info to make a good choice. YOU ROCK!!!! Good luck!
tink0527 0 Posted December 4, 2008 Hello I'm new to this forum. I've had PCOS for 2 years and have been diagnosed with diabetes in Oct. 08. How long did you guys have have to wait until TTC?
Kissmygrits 0 Posted December 4, 2008 i have PCOS and am seriously considering the lapband - however my GP said I could accomplish the same results without spending the money if i was just more dedicated to a lifestyle change - would you agree? I just think this is another case of fat discrimination. Sure- in theory anyone can lose weight AND keep it off. I'm sure there are no fat people in Sudan, I'm sure- even those who have PCOS. But in our culture, less than 5% of dieters actually do keep weight off successfully. And considering the serious side effects of what PCOS can do to your body (wreak havoc on your ovaries, type 2 diabetes, infertility, uterine cancer, hair loss, hirsutism, acne, etc.), in my opinion you deserve more than a 5% chance at getting your life back. I am all for exhausting every option before resorting to surgery. But let's just face it, overweight people aren't overweight for lack of trying not to be. Most of us have done 1000 diets, exercise programs, shakes, drinks, meditation, hypnosis, meetings, 12 steps, and probably some other things before we even CONSIDERED being surgically altered. Kissmygrits 0 Posted December 4, 2008 Hello I'm new to this forum. I've had PCOS for 2 years and have been diagnosed with diabetes in Oct. 08. How long did you guys have have to wait until TTC? My doc encourages everyone to wait a year and a half to maximize the amount of time to lose weight (I read somewhere that the band is most effective in that time period). But I'm no spring chicken and I just got married, so we just started trying and I hit my 1 year anniversary in a couple weeks. I've read from other bandsters that in addition to what your doc says, you should also determine where you are in weight loss? Do you feel you are at a healthy weight for conception (whatever that means)? Also, you want to wait until the weight loss slowed or stopped- it can be dangerous to the fetus to continue to lose weight while pregnant.
akheya 0 Posted June 20, 2009 Hey everyone..maybe someone on this thread can help me...well m not diagonsed with PCOS...but m very scared...thing is i havent realli gotten it checked it but the symptoms do sound lil similar and i met a doctor for my lapband surgery he has asked me to do some test prior to the surgery (some blood work and pelvic and abdomen Ultrasound) now m not married and everytime i do ending going for my appointments with the dr my mom makes it a point to come along...the doctor happened to ask me if i was a virgin and before i could answer he said ya u must be(m not)...the reason m not ending up getting it checked is...well i belong to an indian family and they dont really accept their kids to have sex before marriage..i know its sad,but ya thats the truth and more over i live in dubai and i plan to get my surgery done here as well...being a muslim country its even worse...now i dont know wat to doo...has anyone had this problem before...my dr and endo suspects i might have some hormonal inbalance...but cant be for sure till i run those test...Now if i go for my Ultrasound and they find out m not a virgin m scared they my tell my mom and my mom is gonna be hystericall then....i guess my question is did anyone have to do pelvis ultrasound for lapband surgery? and are the test any diff if ur virgin or not?
