Recommended Posts

Ask your Bariatric team for a referral to a doctor that will perform it (in the time needed, confirm it will work with insurance etc)

Find a doctor in the Primary practice you currently attend that will ok it (if there are multiple doctors, perhaps a colleague, that can be seen)

Last resort, hound the doctor everyday. EVERYDAY. Even just walk in.

Get what you need and want.

Safe Journey!

Did they say why they cancelled it? I would do a walk in appt if you feel he cancelled it on purpose. They have to see you they cannot refuse medical treatment.

What a jerk. It's one thing to not support, it's another thing to refuse to do a physical. I hadn't seen a doctor in years at the time of the surgical seminar, so I asked the surgery coordinator what doctors they worked with a lot. They referred me to a doctor I really like and I will continue to use him as my PC. I would ask the surgeon's office, they will refer you to someone who supports WLS as a tool. BTW, why does he oppose it? Does he think there is a medical risk for you, or does he just think you can lose weight without it? A lot of doctors have extreme bias against heavier people.

It's been my experience that it's generally male doctors who tend to behave this way. Do you live in a small community with few primaries? My life turned around 180 degrees when I found myself a good, compassionate female primary. I'm not suggesting that all male primaries are jerks, but they tend to have more acorns up their butt than necessary.

Most Urgent Care centers do H & Ps. If one is near you that might be an option until you find a new PCP.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
