Veterans - Revision to Bypass Results

Recommended Posts

So when I decided to have a revision from sleeve to bypass, due to bad reflux and weight gain, my surgeon warned me that my weight loss results would be slower than if I had not had previous WLS. I defiantly felt like I lost more quickly with my initial surgery.

I just wondered for those that are farther out from revision......... Did you reach your goal? How much of your excess weight did you lose 40% 50%, 60% or more of your estimated weight loss goal? Do you feel that your weight loss was slower than with your initial WLS? Did you weight loss slow dramatically after the first few month? How long did it take you to get to goal?

I would love to hear any information or progress stories you revision veterans are willing to share. Thanks!

So, yes, *typically* revisions lose less quickly than first timers. But that doesn't mean that's what it'll be like for you, just something you have to be aware of *if* it happens. I'm down over 100 lbs since March. Not sure if that's typical or more... I'm at the point now where my weight loss as slowed down greatly, I could easily move to maintenance if I wished to stay at this weight, but I want to go a bit lower so I'm still working on it, but it sure has gotten much harder to do.

Thanks for the response and link. It was very helpful! I try not to compare myself to others but it is hard not to sometimes not too. I am happy with my progress so far. It just sometimes when you have a slow weight loss week you can't help but wonder, Is this it? Is this all I am going to be able to lose this time? But i am still early in the game. I am 10 week post op so I am going to be positive that there is more weight loss to come and stay on track with my plan.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
