At home sleep apnea test???

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a sleep apnea test performed at home and have been approved? My insurance denied the hospital test, but approved the at home test. Just wondering if anyone has had this experience?

I had an at home sleep apnea test. A tech comes to your house and puts all the wires and monitors on you. I didn't have any insurance issues and they made it sound like I had a choice about whether I'd like to have it done at their clinic or at home.

I just had this done. I was given something to attach myself before I went to sleep. Just didn't get a good night sleep with it. My insurance would not pay for sleep center test.

I also had the home test gor sleep apnea. I had something around my chest with a battery pack, and a thin cannula type thing just inside my nostrils. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and now have been using a CPAP for about 18 months. No problems with insurance covering everything.

I also had the home test for sleep apnea. I picked up the kit from the doctor's office which I had to return the next day. I had something around my chest with a battery pack and a thin cannula in my nose. Insurance covered the test in full. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and now have been using a CPAP for about 4 months. Insurance covers part of my CPAP machine and supplies.

And Medicare and Medicaid paid it all, but I suspect they only billed Medicare. Interesting fact, just got a note from Lincare, as a reward for being such a Good Little User, I now,own my machine. This is an honor,i didn't actively seek, but IT IS WHAT IT IS!🗿

Mine was the same and it was like 16-17 years ago. It was just like a normal CPAP machine in a briefcase sorta thing...and it measured the needed pressures and how often the apnea's and hypopneas happened. My insurance also would not do the sleep center test.

Yes I had an at home sleep apnea test and had my surgery a month ago. From what I understand it’s not as accurate as the facility test but they still determined I had it. Good luck!

The sleep center is sending me a “kit” as they called it, with cables to go around my chest, something that goes in my nose and something that goes on my finger! I was just wondering how “official” these results would be, or it would be enough (if I had sleep apnea) to be considered for surgery. I’m right below the BMI, but have questionable blood pressure and my cholesterol could be better. Just seeking some advice from those who have been there. Thanks for all the replies!

Home sleep studies are good. But there may be additional requirements.

Depending on the company, you will wear them 1-3 nights. After they receive it back it takes 3-7 days for the doctor to receive a report. If the report shows severe sleep apnea there may be additional requirements. The auto cpap is very popular. It has automatic settings. But severe sleep apnea usually requires higher setting that the auto cpap can accommodate. This is where you May have to have a second in house study for determining the appropriate settings for you. There are no home type machines for this test.

Your surgeon may also require you to wear the cpap for a month before having surgery. And just so you know, they can request a 30 day report from the cpap company. It tells how many nights you wear it and for how many hours. In general, compliance is considered wearing it 70% of nights for at least 4 hours.

Some doctors will let you have the auto cpap even w severe sleep apnea. I have severe sleep apnea and have an automatic.

That’s exactly what I had. The results came back as having sleep apnea.

I did the home test that I connected myself. Apparently one or more leads were loose so they couldn’t use the results. Had to have an in-lab test next as a result.

I had at home test. Equipment was mailed to me then educator called and explained how to use it. Wore it for 2 nights. Diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Surgeon's office said no CPAP no surgery. I got auto CPAP, used it for 3 weeks now. I was told to bring it to use after surgery. My surgery is tomorrow

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
