Surgery in 2 weeks...

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is in about 2 weeks. I am anxious, excited, nervous, and scared. I am thankful to enjoy my last Thanksgiving FEAST (food funeral). Anyone else have surgery coming up soon?

Don't really consider,it a food Funeral, consider it a Food Festival, some of your Old Friends are going on a holiday, if they don't return, it will be fine, you will make new ones. And at a later reunion you may wonder what you ever saw in them!👈😛👉

It’s not a food funeral.

Last thanksgiving I was on my liquid diet preparing for my surgery. This thanksgiving, I will be about two weeks away from one year post op.

You will eat turkey again. You will eat small amounts of other favorites like mashed potatoes or stuffing. You may even have a bit of pie for dessert. The idea that it will be the “last” time you eat something, well that’s false. It may be the last time you are physically able to eat a pound of food, but that’s a different story.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving but I guarantee next year you won’t believe your eyes!

I understand the idea of a food funeral. I had the same feelings. I talked with a Lot of people who had the surgery and they said you DO get back to foods you want to eat. It's just a change that you will want a slide or 2 of pizza rather than the whole thing.

I'm 9 days out from surgery and the worse part so far was having a Catheter in the first day. I'm a guy so I know I'm a big baby. :)

Just sip a lot of liquids. Walk. It helps with boredom and helps to heal. I've cubes and sugar free popcicles are amazing the first few days.

Thanks for all the encouragement! I am just 4 days away from surgery now and going through my to do lists. I did eat a lot at Thanksgiving but I realize that I am looking forward to not being able to eat much and not seeing my food baby appear after my meals. lol

I can't help being a bit nervous, but I look forward to the losers bench on Monday!

You’ll do amazing :)
Don’t take a whole lot to hospital with you- really. You’ll be sleeping and walking . Phone, charger and maybe biotine/ chapstick.

You’re in the home stretch !

I was extremely nervous. When the nurse came in the prep room I told her I was very nervous and I really didn't want to remember rolling into the operating room. They gave me a sedative right before they rolled me out and I don't remember any of the ride down the hallway.

Lord help Losing2Day to be less nervous and to know they have made righ decision. Guide the Surgeons and give speedy recovery. Amen

Joey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
