Protein Powders, best taste, little or no after-tsete? Suggestions, please?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to the site, my first post. I just saw the dietician and am overwhelmed by the shopping list of Protein Drinks, Protein waters and protein powders choices to buy in the next few weeks before surgery. Any recommendations of what tastes the best, with little or no after taste? Thank you!

We have the best intentions to stock up and prepare before surgery, but learn from my mistake and don't buy too much. I found Premier Protein the most palatable, I bought a metric shiz-ton of it, and now I have to hope that I can return it because your tastes change and I can't stomach it. Many people like Premier Protein, especially when mixed in coffee. I've been making my own with Greek yogurt and Fairlife milk. Fairlife milk is really helpful to have on hand, it has more protein and less sugar than regular milk, it is lactose-free and it tastes like regular milk. I've been using it to thin out other products that are too sweet and to use instead of Water to give things a protein boost.

I really like Isopure's powder protien drink. I prefer the texture and taste over the heavier vanilla and chocolate protien. It's way cheaper than by the bottle and being an isolate your body breaks is down easier. I like the fruit punch and citrus flavors - a bit sour tasting at first.

I'm in love with whey Protein Powder Isolate by BulkSupplements. I bought mine from Amazon. I love this stuff. I mix it plain Water and it taste like extremely watered down welfare milk power lol. You know, that farina your mom had in the pantry when you were a kid. Oh, and it mixes so freakin' easy! I put it in my cup, give it a hard stare and bam! 8 - 12 oz of Protein at 122 calories, no sugars or fat and less than 1 carb.

Premiere is good ready made, Quest is a good powder to pick up at a store, tastes pretty darn good, but if I am prepared enough to order online the very best I’ve tasted is Inspire Protein from BariatricPal. They have no gross whey taste and lots of good flavors.

I am so grateful that Muscle Milk Protein powder and shakes was on my list. I can make hot chocolate out of it or throw it in the blender with ice. Mixed it in my cream of wheat. Other than that I like Premier shakes and I have the CVS brand in chocolate and vanilla. I like them best ice cold. They tend to give me a Vitamin like aftertaste. Loved it before surgery not as well aft er r.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
