Does the type of protein matter?

So I am really, really struggling with Liquid Protein and I'm trying different things. I have found that bariatric hot cocoa, while a bit too sweet, is much more tolerable, and it has 15 grams of Protein, and if I make it with Fairlife milk instead of Water it has even more. The thing is, the protein source is Calcium caseinate, and I see things like whey protein concentrate or milk protein concentrate in most products. Is calcium caseinate an adequate source? Does it even matter what kind of protein it is: whey, soy, pea, rice, etc.? Thanks in advance!

Yes and no. Yes, in that if you have intolerances to lactose you'll want to avoid anything with Protein Concentrate and would want to stick with Protein isolates. No in that, if you don't have issues, then it really doesn't matter what type of protein you consume. Some are slower acting... but overall at this point you really don't need to be worrying about consuming slow acting Proteins specifically for muscle rebuilding. As long as you can tolerate it, and the calories and sugar contents fall in line with your diet, you are all good.

Thanks, Matt. That's good to know, this is the least gag inducing thing I have found. I can't wait until I am able to get protein from food. I don't mind protein chips or bars to supplement, but these drinks are truly sickening.

I was told that early on, before you're getting most/all of your Protein from food, stick to whey protein isolate, because it's the easiest to absorb. Later on, blends or concentrates or whatever are fine.

Where do my collagen peptide supplements fit into the "protein type" category? Per unflavored serving is 10g of protein.

That's going to depend on your supplement. Seems the protein is coming from cow hid itself, so you would naturally have little to no lactose in cow hid.

Yup, this is what I use, the travel packets https://amzn.to/2QKMyPM it does say collagen is not a complete protein...hmmmm...I'll have to ask my surgeon when I go see him in a couple weeks.

Agreed, might be a good idea to talk that through with your nutritionist as well. They might have you supplement with some other Proteins.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
