Sleeve to Bypass Revision

Recommended Posts

Hey I am 30 years old

Lapband in 2011 starting weight 330 went to 155

gained it all back

sleeved in 2015 starting weight was 295 went to 155

since being sleeved i have had severe heartburn and acid reflux, my body doesnt asorb anything so i dont get my Vitamins

i met with an ent dr to get my acid checked out

he did a barium test and sent me over to the general surgeon

he looked at my test and immediately was petrified

he said that whoever did my sleeve completely messed it up

my stomach was not cut right

he said the only fix is the bypass

i am getting an endoscopy tomorrow to find out how much damage was done to my esophagus and to my stomach

and then i should be getting the bypass next month

i am totally freaking out

this was not what i wanted to hear

has anyone else had the same issues

About a month after my sleeve in December 2014 I had very bad acid reflux. I only lost about 45 pounds and could not loose anymore. I ram about 2 weeks out from my Gastric Bypass surgery done 10/30 and my acid reflux is completely gone.

Such a relief to hear others are going through the same thing. I was sleeved In 2014. About 8 months after I got severe heart burn, had the gall bladder removed. Still heart burn. After multiple meds I got an endoscopy over two weeks ago with some biopsies. I would LOVE to fix this, I don’t care if I need to have surgery.

Hi Ashley - I had the sleeve in Dec 2012, had vomiting, acid reflux and gerd. I threw up Vitamins and couldn't each much but crackers and stuff like that, diet was shot. I lost down to 186 and gained it all back. All of these issues have caused damage to my lower esophageal sphincter (it no longer closes) and my stomach lining as well as a hernia. I had tests run in August, September and October and I had Sleeve to bypass revision on Dec 3rd. I feel so much better!!! I am holding down food, vitamins and Protein properly. I'm able to lay flat to sleep for the first time since my sleeve, I was at the point where I did not care if I lost another pound as long as the reflux/gerd and pain would go away...and it mostly has! 30 lbs down again to boot! My surgeon warned that I may lose slow or not at all, but I am still early into this new tummy. Hope you get a resolution and some relief.

It's great to rad that revising sleeve to bypass has resulted in relief from the problems after sleeve. I was sleeved in 2015 and did well initially. Four months out, the pain and heartburn started. Had gallbladder removal with little to no relief. Here we are, three years later and the pain, nausea/vomiting, and GERD are what my whole life revolves around. Saw a new surgeon today and we are going ahead with revision to bypass. I feel excitement, hope, and anxiety at the same time. I'm wondering if anyone had any complications following revision. How recovery was different from the sleeve. Any advise you can give?

I had a botched sleeve in October 2017 and couldn't reliably hold down anything (including water) for the next 6 months until it was converted to bypass by a new surgeon. I am now able to eat again and feel so much better. Unfortunately my weight loss prematurely slowed and stopped due to getting almost zero calories for so long then finally hoarding calories when it had them again. But my situation was pretty unique so hopefully that will not be the case with you at all!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
