Anyone repulsed by sugar now?

Recommended Posts

I had my bypass on November 5th. I am now absolutely grossed out by anything sweet. It's bizarre because I used to have such a sweet tooth. I can't even bear anything labeled sugar free. I haven't had any actual sugar but the taste of the sugar in sf Gatorade, Protein Shakes, etc is too much for me. Anyone else get this?

I have been lucky. I was sleeved on the 8th. I am lucky and so far like or can tolerate everything i am drinking. However as wierd as it sounds the only Protein Shake that taste wierd to me.. is the chocolate one LOL.. Of all of the flavors i am drinking the chocolate is the worst, Cookies and cream is second worst. I am hoping i did not lose my love for chocolate LOL.

I had surgery 10/22. I used to drink the Vitamin Water zero, but now find them too sweet. Unsweetened applesauce is my sweetness limit so far.

OMG YESSSSS! My hand is up and waving in the air like "pick me, pick me"! HAHA

Sugar or ANYTHING sweet totally grosses me out! I guess that is a good thing but getting used to it did take a bit to get used to. And now trying to figure out what I like now and don't like took a lot of trial and error. A lot of people say don't you get tired of eating the same things. And in fact NO! When it tastes good and makes you feel good it doesn't get old. I crave it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
