Any of you guys used NSAID's after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Even though it is prohibited, some doctors do let patients use them. What was your reason? For menstrual cramps, arthritis, general pain? And how long was it for?

Any answers appreciated, thanks

I dropped a butter knife on my foot and probably bruised the bone; took NSAIDs then. Also took some when I had a headache recently. My doc doesn't put them off-limits and I had no repercussions, but obviously stick to what YOUR doc says.

Our doc doesn't restrict them - that's an RNY thing - though it's best not to use them consistently if you can avoid it (and do so under medical supervision.) I used them some after orthopedic surgery a couple years post op, as my wife uses them some occasionally now (13+ years post op) as a result of some spinal problems.

@AchieveGoals

i had the sleeve, and my doc said NO to NSAIDS

we all know that docs are different in their instructions.

At the end of the day you/me/we should follow drs./NUTS

words of wisdom!!🙂

good luck

kathy

My PCP told me limited use *shouldn't* cause issues. I've got spinal arthritis and some nerve issues right now, and I was told it was ok to use if need be. I haven't used them even with that clearance because I really don't want to risk the ulcer issue. There are some supplements that mimic anti-inflammatory meds that could be useful (Like Turmeric for instance).

I have arthritis everywhere. The x-rays even cause the technicians to gasp when they look at them the first time! I have been on Voltaren for at least 10 years, the last 3.5 being post op sleeve. I am gleefully down to only one a day that I take with omeprazole.

That being said, I never miss a scheduled doctor appointment and we keep an eye on it. Not everyone will develop ulcers, but if it starts I'll have to drop the only arthritis medicine that has given me any relief.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
