Can I still bleach my hair after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I got surgery four months ago and I’m losing some hair. Dr and all research I’ve done says it should stop around 6 months. Sontwo more months. I take Biotin and had pretty thick hair to begin with so it’s not noticeable to anyone but me. Has anyone ever bleached their hair during this stage? Did it make it worse? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but since any hair that’s going to fall out is going to fall out anyway, how could bleaching it make it worse? Thanks for any input!

When visiting your stylist let them know you are experiencing Telogen Effluvium and get expert their opinion on the matter. They may use gentler products, extra conditioning techniques or ask you to wait. The Pros know all of the tips and tricks. 😎

I have 3 hairs left. Can I bleach mine now? hehe.

Please tell me you're kidding! I had cancer 4 years ago and my hair grew back sooo thin as it is. I was thinking as long as I keep up with my Protein and take my vits I'll be good....no?

Yes. A little bit! I probably have 15 left. ;) But the TE has been going strong for awhile. I'm ready for it end. :D But i do want to dye my hair for my 2nd Goal reward.

Ermagerd! I will not be a happy skinny person if I cannot cover my grays!!! I can't look young and lovely with wisdom highlights all over! Maybe just the gray ones will fall out!?!?!

Mine is horrendously thin....at one year out and I still lose some daily and I ate all my Protein, drank all my Water and took biotin.....and then cry and avoid looking from the neck up in the mirror.

But my daughters started using Zenegen Shampoo and says their hair brush is empty and their hair is shiny for the first time in years - it's hella expensive....find a hairdresser friend and talk her into a deep discount. Ima get some......

Bleaching hair in general is very damaging. There are some bleaching products that I've gotten from Sally's ( I do all my hair stuff at home) that is less damaging and even helps soften your hair. Are you lifting, lightening, highlighting, etc? Because there could be a safer alternative than bleach. Like it's been mentioned, talk to your hair dresser, explain your effluviam issue and let them do what's healthiest for your hair. But make sure they are trustworthy and not out for their pocket getting fatter.

I highlighted my hair before and after gastric bypass, no problem. I suffered from some hair thinning after GB surgery but it only lasted for around 4 months.

Don’t take Biotin as it doesn’t help with hair regrowth so it is a waste of money. However, the main reason to not take it is it can interfere with lab tests (e.g. cardiovascular diagnostic tests and hormone tests). Please read this Safety Communication from the FDA for detailed info:

FDA Warns that Biotin May Interfere with Lab Tests

I had my normal coloring yesterday to cover the gray--I have lost quite a bit of hair but the color actually makes it look thicker and better IMHO. My hairdresser said there is not any reason to do anything different due to TE.

I'm afraid of bleaching my hair
1, Aunt tried it with my color scheme, she ended up with orange sherbet hair, never bleach if you're a redhead!
2. I probably would resemble a broken-down scrub brush, thick with,just a tuft,on top.

Thank you for that. I just had some hormone labs done and am taking lots of biotin. I'll have to tell my doctor at my next visit.

You may also need to tell the doc about the FDA warning. Mine didn't know.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
