Food too much trouble??

Recommended Posts

Yes, I get like this at times. Particularly dinner time, I'm never hungry in the evening. I have to cook for my DH and 3 kids and I really sometimes have to MAKE myself do it becuase if it were just me, I'd not bother, I'd have a glass of wine instead, lol.

I am with ya...I totally live on milk and instant mashed potatoes. But every time I pull on a pair of my size 6 jeans...trust me, the fact I never get real food doesn't bother me at all!!!

I think about food all the time, but nothing sounds good and a lot of times it doesn't taste good either and so I don't eat. I haven't experienced any pain with eating. I just get soooooooo tired of chewing that I don't want to eat. Yet the weight is falling off either. I think it is because I was refusing to drink Protein. So today I started drinking protein and hopefully this will help.

Yep , do it as well. I usually drink a Protein shake for Breakfast because im not a Breakfast person and its just too much trouble to fix something.

Also sometimes what i fix for the kids and hubby isnt "band Friendly " ( although i try to only fix one meal) so I will drink one for dinner .

I try REALLY hard not to do this.

This weekend we went out to eat for my sisters bday , I REALLY wanted shrimp but i had not tried shrimp yet since being banded, I REALLY did not want to get stuck at a restaurant so i just went with a bunless hamburger since i knew it was safe.

Really have to think about food a lot more now

I find myself doing the same thing. It's like I went from binging, to being anorexic.

I don't see the point in eating when I don't really get to enjoy it. I can eat like 2 bites, then I'm full, and have to let the uncomfortable digestion process sit in...

Well I think that is the problem .... I heard some where that we need to think of food as what it is ... NUTRITION Nothing more. We need food to live , food technically isnt to be "enjoyed" , sure you should like the food you eat. But its not entertainment. We need food to LIVE nothing else. SO you eat the food to live , not for it to be enjoyed. If that makes sense ?

I eat A LOT OF stuff I dont particularly care for , but i Do it because i know its good for me , we have to eat as part of this process, if we dont what's the point ?

Yes I do skip one meal a day but if your skipping multiple meals , often or consuming liquids to get your calories A LOT , i think thats a problem and frankly not the point of the band.

That's just my opinion .

I'm just 1.5 weeks post-op and hungry, starving to death! But I'm only allowed 2 tablespoons/meal, so all I do is open a can of Soup or have some cottage cheese or oatmeal. Like as if I'm going to make a meal for two tablespoons worth! Not likely.

I have also lost desire to eat solids mainly because it will get stuck and that pbing is not cool. So I often make bad choices because there is some hunger. I got this thing for cheese now...where did that come from!? I know it is empty calories, but many days it is what I eat to fulfill the desire for texture and flavor.

However, I still have not loss weight in over two weeks. For those eating much smaller than expected, what are you choosing and how are you keeping your metabolism going so you continue to lose?:hungry:

Even if you eat several small meals a day you will STILL Loose. I eat what i want when i want, except i stay away from carbs ( except veggies) as much as possible because of the pcos you WILL STILL LOOSE.

I eat about every 4 hours. about 5 meals a day . My doc says its ok and as you can see by my sig line im loosing just fine . About 2.5 pds a week.

If your eating solids and your getting stuck or PBing You NEED AN UNFILL .

the slightest of unfills will make the biggest of difference. An unfill does not mean gaining weight. I just had an unfill .

I am loosing weight again now . I prety much eat when im hungry which averages every 3-4 hours

Thanks for the response Mindy. You are doing great. I was afraid to get the unfill, thinking I would eat too much. But I think my metabolism has slowed down so much, it is having the same effect. I go back to the doctor on December 8, 2007 and I will ask for some to be taken out. I thought I would adjust to it, but the last fill was about two months ago and has not improved. Because of the pbing, I shy away from eating. Well Thanksgiving will be different this year......have a happy holiday.

Your welcome. No you wont eat too much from the unfill. Your not doing yourself any good by doing things the way they are now. What good is the band when it slips due to PBing too much ? That is one way to look at it ?

I do however understand your fear , i tried to "ride it out" myself as long as I could I kept thinking, It will get better, its stress" but it didnt. Things are alot better now . I am allowed to eat up to 6 small meals aday . And I will tell you before i was not eating enough . So I eat when im hungry , I do check myself and make sure " Am i eating because im bored or because im HUNGRY . When im hungry i eat . Which usually ends up being 4-5 times a day and I am fine .

There are times when I might have an hour that i need to tide me over because its too soon to eat , so i drink Water and that helps .

But I NEVER Go for 2 or more hours of being SO HUNGRY i cant stand it.

I have never had to do that.

Feel free to PM me if you like.

Good luck

Mindy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
