How much Protein were you hitting right after post-op?

You're right- I should focus on healing and getting in as much as I possibly can. I'll definitely try to relax and not fret about it too much, I feel like it's doing me more harm than good haha. I don't feel hungry either or not yet anyway which I am thankful for.

Thank you for this, I feel much better about not really hitting my goals everyday but I do try my best. I think just need to take it day by day.

:)

I'm going to disagree. Yes, by all means, relax. Take a chill pill. But, that doesn't absolve you from your personal responsibility to try as much as humanly possible to follow your doctor's post op prescription (for food and exercise, ie Protein goal). LOL. If he want's you eating x-grams of protein by 2weeks out or 7 weeks out or 3 months out, your's is not to question why, your's is but to do or die. He/she has his reasons for it that we may not be privy to. You def. have higher protein needs while you are immediately healing from surgery. And my RD said that healing isn't fully done for 4-6 months.

So yeah. There's that.

You need to figure out your schedule and how many times a day you are eating or drinking your meal. Then divide up the protein. So you know how much you need to get down per meal. It's not rocket science, it's just systematically portioning your protein off. And it can be done. I know, cuz there are millions of people the world round doing it.

So find out what your doc's team wants you to have as you goal. Set that goal. Make that goal. It's as easy and hard as that. By the end of my first week I was getting in my 60g of protein. By end of week 2 I think I was at my 74g personal target set by the RD. My first 4 days I think I was around 48g of protein. liquids only.

I had trouble in the beginning with pretty much EVERYTHING. Completely stressed out about it and it consumed me. Everything felt like lava going down the first few weeks but it does get better. I am a little over 3months post op and have no problems meeting Protein goals although I still you a supplement everyday, either bars or shakes. I will say my weight loss didn’t pick up till I was meeting my protein goals and it bummed me out I wasn’t losing mine I should have in the beginning. I was losing 1-2lbs a week on those first few weeks, but now average 5lbs.

I see your point and I appreciate the honest feedback.

My doctor wants me to hit at least 40 grams and I'm currently hitting a max of 30g so I definitely need to step it up. I think the pressure was just getting to me and I've been getting so anxious about not hitting it so I do need to relax a bit but figure out a system to my protein going. So I guess I need to do a mix of both haha

:)

Thanks for the tip- I'm just so sick of the shakes for now as I'm still on full liquids but I think once I get to the next stage and I get some actual food going, it's going to be easier to reach my protein goals or at least I hope :)

If it helps I do the half coffee half Premier Protein still today and I love it. Completely cuts the sweetness too. In the beginning I ate crushed ice constantly as that was the only way to drink Water for me. By 1 month i know you will be meeting your goals try not to stress too much, but I know easier said than done.

I second this. It totally cuts the sweetness and works for hot coffee, cold/iced coffee, and frappacinos!

Oh and I like the Peaches and Cream mixed into hot or iced matcha, green tea, or peach tea. Also Breakfast tea is great with it or with vanilla and chai seasonings.

Ohhh never thought to mix tea with it! I’m going to have to pick up some vanilla PP now to mix with chai tea 😋

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
