3 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

Had my sleeve done three weeks ago today. I’m down 16 pounds since the surgery and 31 pounds since the pre-op diet. I’m happy with the results but I did step in the scale this morning hoping to see lower numbers. I’m trying to only weigh myself once a week. I can’t wait to start working out again. I do think that’ll help.

Drinking has gotten much easier and I’m so happy to eat solid foods again. I did try some deli turkey yesterday and that didn’t go so well! I’ve made some delicious Soups and chicken chili with lots of Beans. All of it went down well. My nutritionist suggested I write down what I’m eating with the amount of Protein so I can keep track. I’m going to start doing that as I think it’ll be helpful to keep me accountable.

A lot of folks have said they can only take a few bites and they feel so full. I haven’t experienced that. I find myself having to learn what satisfied feels like. Not a feeling I’m used to.

Anyway, I hope everyone’s doing well on their journey!

Search for "stall", the 3rd week and anytime you make large dietary changes, your body has the potential to "stall" and weight loss will appear to stop, or you might even gain weight. Just stick to your diet, ensure you are attempting to get upwards of 128 oz of Water and don't stress about the weight loss.

Also, when you start working out, expect the weight loss to slow, or a gain to happen, this occurs because of the Fluid your muscles will retain when you start working them out again. It won't stay that way, but the first week or 2 can be frustrating. Also, recent studies are showing that daily weight-ins result in more weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
