Is anybody hungry???

Recommended Posts

My banding was 11/6/07 and I've yet to feel hungry. I can tell there is a "presence" in my stomach area but mostly I feel a mild indigestion when I've not "eaten" one of the Protein shakes in a timely manner. Ive felt a little hickup thing some time so I've quit eating at that point though I've not eaten all my "meal".

I have the smaller AP band and Dr. Montgomery told me there would be a liitle restriction but not much. I was able to swallow Water after my surgery so they said I didn't need an x-ray. I just wonder when I'll feel hungry.

Tomorrow will be a challenge because I return to work. I hope I can find enough energy to do that because I seem to be wearing out quickly.

I'm just wondering how "normal" I am because I feel no hunger.

Hi Kandice!! Had my surgery on the 9th! Wow, my shoulder sure hurts! It's getting better, but GEEZ it was sooooooo sour yesterday and when I got home Friday night.

Everything went really smoothly. My surgeon said I was "text book" which was lovely to hear. No hernia to repair. My surgery took about an hour and five minutes. Woohoo!!!

I haven't been hungry AT ALL! I didn't get the smaller profile bad; just the regular one. I asked him about it before my surgery and he said, "It's hard enough to find the regular one, so we don't change you to the low profile band until after you've lost a lot of your weight." Ok - I can live with that.

I had some pretty bad nausea this morning, but thankfully no vomiting. I made the mistake of taking my little nausea patch off after my shower - which, by the way, was quite possibly the BEST shower ever!! Just because it felt sooooo good to wash my hair.

I've been really good about getting up and walking, using my spirometer, giving myself my heparin injections. All in all, I'm doing pretty darn great! I don't plan on going back to work until MAYBE Thursday or Friday, if at all. My boss said to take the whole week if I want it. We'll see.

So far, the recovery is going really well. Thanks to everyone for the pre-op advice and suggestions. I'm quite sure that's why I feel as good as I do.

Kandice: I'm 11 days out from surgery and I'm STILL not hungry! I can tell when it's time for another shake or cup of protein-enhanced broth but it's more like my energy wans a little than the hunger that I'm used to. Seeing food doesn't tempt me at all but sometimes smelling food does, but even then, it's only mild temptation.

If this is what it's going to be like after I get some restriction, I'm going to like it! :woot:

Andie: I assume you mean they'll change out your PORT to a low-profile port. I don't think you want them messing with your band. ;)

I have no idea what size band I have. I forgot to ask at my appointment. But the size shouldn't matter when it comes to initial restriction. They choose the size based on the size of your stomach and both sizes are partially filled just to keep the plastic balloons from lying flat. However, they do sometimes remove the Fluid during surgery if they think the band is too tight, based on what I've read.

Glad you're both doing well! You'll be amazed at how much you'll improve day by day! :clap2:

Longhorn - yeah... totally meant the port. LOL! It's the drugs... And this little scopalomine <nausea> patch that they have me use -- makes me really dizzy and loopy. LOL! Woohoo! Fun trip!!!

I totally forgot to tell you all about this guy that was in the surgical center to get his BRAND NEW BAND repaired!! At 2 days post-op, he asked him mom to get him a cheeseburger meal from McDonald's and SHE DID!!!! He ate everything and ended up destroying the little pouch - completely SCREWED his band up... Geez! How foolish and desperate can someone be to do that?!! I was completely stunned when I heard that. When I mentioned it to my surgeon he said, "It's not one of my patients! They know I'd have to slap 'em upside the head!!!" LOL! I love food, but not enough to harm myself like that. The thought of eating something solid right now just gives me shivvers. No thanks! I'll happily wait a couple more weeks.

Wow, I am stunned! I'm like you -- I can't imagine being hungry for anything, let alone a meal like that! I haven't even cheated on a sugar-free pudding! Is that psych evaluation a joke? Or do some surgeons not screen their patients? Or was the guy a liar?

It's possible his mom has no idea what his post-surgery requirements are. That meal might have been tiny compared to what he would normally eat. The whole situation really boggles the mind!

I wonder how he knew he had messed up his band? He must have had some really abnormal symptoms. Yikes!:)

<p>I was banded Nov 2. I got hungry probably 5-6 days post-op. I get lightheaded at times and it's really hard to follow the diet as prescribed. I've heard some people don't even need to get fills, but I definitely will!</p>

Honeyb - yes, I get weak too at times. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when my parents leave in a few days. They've been playing with my son a lot, so I can rest pretty much when I need to.

My surgery was 11/2/07. I get very hungry, but I almost like the feeling -- it's been YEARS since I felt a real hunger pang. Thankfully, I have NO cravings, so I can completely ignore the hunger. I'm just back to being able to tolerate the Protein Drinks without plugging my nose, so it's easy to get the Protein in at the beginning of the day, which immediately eliminates the hunger.

I was banded on 11/5. I haven't felt deprived or hungry since surgery. I've only been able to drink Clear Liquids for the first 7 days, now I'm up to full liquids.. milk, yogurt, pudding, creamy Soups, etc. I couldn't wait until I could go to the next step. This morning I made really creamy Cream of Wheat for Breakfast. It was heavan! But I could really only eat 1/4 cup before I was full.

I'm only hungry if I don't drink enough or eat on time... sometimes get distracted at work. For the most part, doing great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
