Just got home.. question about eating

Recommended Posts

Hey! Just had surgery on the 1st and got home this morning at 11. Everything went perfectly. I am struggling a bit with one thing I don't really get yet.

I don't feel hungry, maybe a slight twinge. But I do not feel full at all. I am on 2 2oz portions of full liquids 5 times a day. Just now, for example, I opted for 4 oz of cream of Tomato Soup.

I think I am sipping too fast? It is so hard to tell because I don't feel full... but by the time I guess my body has had enough I get kind of burpy and heavy feeling. Does that mean I am going too quickly or is that just the new cue on when to stop? I'm not taking big gulps, I don't think... but it only takes me about 5 minutes to finish those 4 ounces.

Also, I can drink Water nonstop and not have any symptoms. Is that normal? I went through 18 ounces in 2 hours no problem. I don't want to do things TOO fast, but without normal cues I'm just not sure what's pushing it?

I'm not much further on than you.. I had my surgery on the 22nd.. my stomach seems to have a mind of own.. sometimes I'll be literally so hungry I cant stand it and sometimes I just feel fairly ok.. just follow what the dietician suggested to the best you can and remember you just had major surgery and your bodies going to take time to heal.. it's not easy but it's not impossible.

Liquids/water will not make you feel full, so please don't worry about that. Burping may or may not be a signal of fullness for you. feeling hungry...I lost my hunger after surgery and it's still gone. I can tell I need to eat something because I feel "empty" but it's not hunger the way I felt before surgery. I could not drink as fast as you can when I was immediately post-op, but we are all individuals and as long as you aren't vomiting, getting foamies, or slime, you are doing fine.

I have trouble telling when I’m full. I go slow and stop when I burp or hiccup. Water and broth go down super easy and don’t cause that so ineatch the clock with those and takes sips every two minutes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
