Hello everyone! I am new to this website and wanted to introduce myself. I started the process for gastric sleeve surgery in September. After having an endoscopy done in early October, the surgeon discovered that I have Barrett esophagus. Due to this diagnosis, I am not able to have the sleeve surgery, and will instead have gastric bypass. If all goes according to plan, I will be having surgery mid to late January 2019.

I did a lot of research about the sleeve, but am still learning about gastric bypass. I look forward to hearing about everyone's different experiences and learning more about weight loss surgery.

@CeeCee2018 . Always nice to meet a new forum friend. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I'm an expert at asking dumb ones, so don't let any topic stop you from getting to the bottom of what you want/need to know. We were all navigating unfamiliar waters in the beginning, so don't be shy.

And, yes, the archives are a wealth of information. Of course, they lack that one-to-one contact with another forum member directly, but they can still provide you with a lot of details that you may not even know you needed to know!

You came to the right place for bypass info. Actually, the bypass area would be better than this area, which is the general weight loss surgery area, but you'll find your way there. Ask if you need a roadmap. (You'll have to re-fold the map yourself, though.:) )

Hello everyone! I haven't been on in a while because things have been a hot mess. I am very disappointed in my surgeon's office. It is a long story, but the short version is they never sent my file to insurance. A lot of work on my end trying to be the middle person to get things done because the surgeon's office dropped the ball. My surgery has been approved by insurance and the date is now February 13. I start the Robard diet today!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
