Ever since I started pre-op, my skin has been exploding with both cystic acne and whiteheads. Mostly cystic acne. I've always had a small amount on my forehead from the oil from my bangs. But it has gotten very bad and painful! What is going on? Will the hormone changes post-op make it even worse?? I have surgery in 2 days. Did anyone experience acne issues either pre or post-op? Never had it this bad for as long as I can remember. 20181030_135804.jpeg 20181030_135746.jpeg

Less "hormones" more "lack of Vitamins / nutrients / etc.

Are you stressing out more now? Increased Water (I know I know I push water CONSTANTLY, but it does help!) can help with skin issues as well.

I drink 100oz - 120oz a day currently, and I have been on the bariatric Vitamin regimine for the last 15 days + some weird immunonutrition immune boosting recovery shake. I don't *feel* stressed. I don't know. It is really painful though! I feel like I need something like Accutane, but I am scared to take a medicine that harsh post-abdominal surgery.

I'm really worried that once my hormones start going nuts after surgery, it will just get worse, especially since I won't be absorbing the Vitamins as well as I am now. (I am even peeing neon green because I am being dosed with so many vitamins).

Have you talked with your surgeon/team/nutritionist about this yet? The hormone changes are going to be interesting, fat stores estrogen, so you may get flooded with estrogen when your body starts removing fat. From what I'm seeing, a *decrease* in estrogen causes acne, not an increase.

"Some hormones – particularly the male sex hormones like testosterone – cause more oil production. Some hormones – like estrogen – cause less. "

Curious what the doctors will or have said about this.

Not yet - I have my final visit with my surgeon tomorrow morning and I'll bring it up. I went ahead just now and scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist for next week - hope I am up to going.

I bought a 64oz water bottle when I started taking a super strong diuretic for my pseudotumor. I've since stopped taking the diuretic, but I'm still always thirsty so I fill that thing up twice at work, and then drink several more 8oz glasses at home! I hope I can somehow get close to this again after my stomach is tiny!

The trick for post bypass drinking is to figure out what your "empty pouch throughput is" So you can figure the rate of ingestion to match how quickly it flows out the other side. I know I can take 3 full mouthfuls before it's too much to process.

That was actually one of my questions for the surgeon tomorrow. Like, I know I am supposed to have this 8oz shake mid-morning. Well, how do I know how long I should wait between sips? Similar thing with Water.

After you have your 3 mouthfuls, how long do you typically feel you have to wait before drinking again?

5 - 10 mins maybe.

At first you REALLY want to just listen to your body, my day 1 out of surgery and I didn't even get in 1 full 8 oz bottle of Protein. Forget Water. Day 2 was better, I got through a whole bottle, and some water. Day 3 I was home and already started purees. I was eating about 1 oz of pureed stuff a several times a day, and drinking something every 15 mins (except when I had to wait the 30 mins after eating). The big take away, is take your time. No matter what you feel should be happening, no matter how much weight you are or are not losing. Take your time, listen to your body and, if it hurts... stop.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
