Weight loss keeps stalling

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 5 weeks ago. I am down a total of 24 lbs but in that time I lost most of it in the first 2 weeks, then stalled the 3rd week and week 4 lost close to 10 lbs. In the last week I have lost nothing again. I am doing everything the way I was instructed. I drink fluids, get 60-80 grams of Protein daily, take my Vitamins and am slowly incorporating solids into my diet. I do not eat anything I shouldn't. Mainly protein, veggies and fruit once a day. I make my own Protein Shakes. I cannot work out due to having severe spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease in my lower back. I cannot walk for long periods of time. I was told I can swim but not until after I go for my post op appointment in 2 weeks. I do some resistance training with rubber bands on my arms and legs. Is it normal to stop losing?

I wouldn't say that not losing one week, losing ten pounds the next week, then not losing again the next week is a stall. You lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks, which is great! Lately, I've been losing 4-5 pounds one week, then nothing the next week, and so on and so on. A stall is when you don't lose for weeks at a time. You're doing great. Don't worry.

It does happen and it is super frustrating, but don't give up hope. I felt like I'd be the only one to truly fail and it wouldn't work for me, but it's just a stall. I know that doesn't help when you're on the middle of it but it is normal. Just keep doing the next right thing and it will start again.

Wow, to me that sounds like you’ve lost a lot! Seriously, be grateful for what you have lost. My surgery was a month ago today and I’ve lost 9 lbs in a month. Doesn’t seem like a lot but I know my clothes are fitting much better, I’m taking much less insulin for my diabetes and I’m feeling better. Good things are on the way!
