I am in the preop phase of my vsg journey. I’m trying to drink 64 oz of Water a day, which is a HUGE change for me!

My question is, is it OKAY to drink Crystal Light every day as my 64 oz of water??? It helps me so much. Does crystal light could as water?

You can (because by most practices any and all liquids count towards hydration goals , except maybe coffee) but you may not want to substitute all Water, try (really hard) getting in regular water too. There is no replacement for pure water and what it means to health. Plus there will be times when you won't have Crystal light or other additives, and you'll still need to meet hydration goal. Prepping now can help when challenges arise.

Safe Journey!

I have a 30oz Rtic cup that I put fresh fruit in the bottom and fill it with Water. It helps give it a little flavor without all the artificial ingredients. My nutritionist told me it was ok as long as I didn’t eat the fruit. Normally I use pineapple but have also used strawberries or raspberries instead. With the amount of fruit I use I can usually fill it up twice with water.

My dietician told me that Crystal Light, Great Value (Walmart) that they count as Water, That is what I drink sometimes. I also like my water room temperature. I will drink it cold in the warmer weather.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
