Food stages/phases and how much protein per day?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what the stages/phases look like for different surgeons?
I was not required to do a pre-op diet just Clear Liquids the day before. I had my bypass on Wednesday. Feeling satisfied and not hungry just my brain missing my usual Snacks.
I am on a liquid/puree mix this week. I can have the usuals for liquids but I can also have yogurt, FF cream Soups and SF puddings.< br /> I bought Isopure unflavored whey Protein and add it to my Decaf coffee in the morning. Then a triple 0 yogurt for snack, another decaf coffee with whey protein, 1/4 pudding with whey protein, then another shake for dinner. I’m supposed to get another snack in but by then I’m so full! I have been getting between 60-70g protein per day, is that enough?
I am looking forward to more variety like scrambled eggs, chicken salad and cottage cheese but they aren’t added to my diet until after my 1st post op appt on Wednesday. Can’t wait!

Congrats on surgery. Did you have any meetings or discussions with your RD or doc about diet? Did they give you the doctor's diet plan? Where did you have surgery.

Thank you, I’m excited!
Yes of course they gave me a plan I was just curious what other people’s stages/phases timelines look like is all. My plan for week 1 is liquid/purée as I mentioned and I need 3 Snacks and 3 shakes I am trying to squeeze it all in but it’s tough. Just want to make sure I get all my nutrients in ya know? How far out from surgery are you?

I had my surgery on the 5th of October. I have had a hard time getting enough Protein in myself. Lately those Meal Replacement shakes have made me feel nauscious so I'm struggling there. My doctor said I can eat whatever my stomach can handle, but it is hard to get a lot of protein in if I dont drink the shakes. Still struggling to figure it all out.

If you can find them opt for a while the clear fruity Protein Drinks, my Wal-Mart seems 5o have deleted them. I mixed 6oz that, 6oz MinuteMaid 15 calorie fruit punch then filled bottle the rest of way with cold Water. Still fruity but not as strong.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
