Hello All,

My surgery date for the Roux en y gastric bypass is 11/1/18. My original surgery date was 10/11/18 in which I completed 11 days of my 3 week pre op diet ( which consists of 4 Protein Shakes a day, 2 Protein Bars, 1 small banana, up to 3 servings of sugar free Jello, low sodium broth, and of course clear liquids). Now when I first did the diet the first time I followed it very strictly and did not cheat at all. This is now my second time doing the pre op liquid diet which my doctor wants me to do 2 weeks instead of 3 this time around. I "cheated" and had Vietnamese Pho broth only the broth and I am freaking out that I really screwed my self. I haven't deviated from the diet except for that but I noticed my weight loss has plateaued since I did this. Just looking for advise on here since I am freaking my self out so much =(

Probably just sodium causing a little Water retention. You'll be good.

Thank you for responding to me. I just get really hard on myself... hopefully in the next few days more of the Water weight will come off.

Don't be so hard on yourself, @MysteriousGal. Be proud of all of the victories you've had so far, all the things you've done right, and keep your eye on the prize... better health after your weight-loss surgery.

While being honest with yourself about "cheating" is a good thing, don't tear yourself down in the process. You'll experience more ups and downs in the coming months, so be kind to yourself. You need you. Be better to yourself, and remember, to pay forward by helping others here, too.

Why did your surgery date get changed, did your surgeon just want to torture you?

My guess vacation or he wanted to attend a seminar that week. Maybe Mrs Surgeon wanted a Caribbean island cruise!

Thanks so much @Missouri-Lee's Summit. Honestly I am so happy I joined this site! I'm not normally one to be on forums and what not, but this site is amazing. Thank you for all the good advise, I need to work on not being so critical on myself.

Thanks again!

I work in a urgent care and ended up getting a very upper respiratory infection. My primary put me on steroids and antibiotics, apparently you cant take steroids 2 weeks before surgery since it affects the body's healing process. I even had my primary check the "DO NOT take these medications" list provided by my surgeon and it wasn't listed on there.

At the time it was devastating but the cold turned into pneumonia. So it was a really good thing they didn't do the surgery as planned since I was so sick. So literally when I work I wear a mask constantly since I can't bear to have my surgery pushed again.

So @Mysterious Gal, your surgery was supposed to be 11/01/18. Did you have it on time or were there still things to postpone it?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
