I'm 1 month post op today. Down 27. I'm always feeling bloated. TMI- need to really poop, not these little rabit turds. Is it safe to take a gentle laxative. It would be nice going to work next week feeling not so cramped!

From what I've been reading on here Constipation is a very common issue to encounter with this surgery. I tried this Smooth Move Herbal Tea and had quite a bit of success with it. Might be something to consider before going on an actual OTC laxative, which I would definitely talk to your surgeon about before doing.

In my first few weeks, I took Milk of Magnesia to get things moving. Since that time, I regularly take a Fiber supplement and that seems to keep me regular, but if I find that my body needs a little help, I just take a bisacodyl (dulcolax).

I've tried the Smooth Move tea and it's quite effective. However, I hate the taste and it makes the BM smell (really bad).

*As this is my 2nd time around with bariatric surgery, I used Miralax a lot when I was banded and it helped, but I haven't really needed it much with the sleeve.

I take Miralax every other day. If I find myself becoming backed up still I start taking it every day until improvement is noticed. I had problems before and it’s just worse now.

Try a few things and you will find what works best for you.

I too have started taking Smooth Move at night whenever I notice it's been a couple of days.

Actually, I've started typing a poop emoji into my calendar on days when I've gone because it's way too easy for me to let days pass before I realize that something has been missing, and in my experience by the time you realize you haven't gone in several days that boulder of death has already formed and is waiting around the bend!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
