25 more days before surgery-and pigging out

Recommended Posts

Only 25 more days before my banding. Im excited and a tad nervous. My friends who've been banded keep telling me not go go on one last horra before surgery but it's kinda hard. I went to the store last night and bought M&M's, 3 Musketeers, Reese's cups, and Chex mix. GROSS!!! What am I doing?!?! This week I've eaten fast food a couple times and ordered subs for lunch. Is it just me or does it seem like everyone goes through this before surgery? I don't want to gain a ton of weight before surgery but I cant help but think I wont be eating this after surgery. HELP!!!! Can someone give me some advise to help me out of this frame of mind? :hungry::angry

I know the mental mind tells you to eat what you might not be able to eat. I would have to think what u are doing is normal. Do you have a pre op diet you need to follow and if so when? I am finding I can still eat some of the things I used to eat just not alot of it and don't freak yourself out by thinking like that you will never be able to eat that again. I can still eat some of the bad stuff but in smaller amounts and I know when I break down and do I am just hurting myself. I know easier said than done but now is the time to begin your journey and if you start making smarter food choices now you will make the process so much easier after getting the band. I hope I make sense here. I am finding this such a big lifestyle change and wish i mentally prepared prior. You need to get focused on what you want to get from the band and try to forget about the junk food. I am a junk food junkie, now i try to find other healthy options when I am wanting to go back to bad habits and I have only been banded a month.

I don't know for certain, but it seems like this is a normal reaction. Although I've not started pigging out, when I do eat, I can't help but think..."better enjoy this now cause in a month and half you won't be able to touch this stuff". But I've wondered if I'll start pigging out. But the thought of having to lose that much more weight is enough to deter me. The sheer excitement of the thought of having the surgery and actually feeling full with so little is enough motivation. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE food. I'm not an emotional or binge eater...I just love the taste and can't even fathom leaving over half of a meal on my plate! Just think of the benefits of the surgery and don't let the junk food rule you. Use these next few weeks to mentally prepare yourself, cause if you can start now it will only be that much easier once the band is in.

Although you'll be post op by then...my pre-op liquid diet is set to begin Dec. 24th. Just think, knowing you can technically still eat a lot on one of the biggest food holidays and not doing it! Oh my. I'm already preparing myself. In a way I just look at it as if I can get through that, that's an excellent start to this journey and I can prove to myself it's just food. I'll be ok without it.

Best of luck to you!

Hi. I was just banded on Nov. 5th. Even though I was making big changes.. stopped drinking Diet Coke, took smaller bites, tried to watch what I was eating, I also felt a need to eat. We had several last meals. Steak one night, ribs another, then I had some sweets, etc. I know exactly how you are feeling. Just remember that after the splurge to watch it the next day. I only had to do a liquid diet for 1 week before surgery. I did end up losing 17 lbs before I had surgery. Since Monday I've dropped another 10!! Of course a week of Clear liquids will do that to a person.

Good luck and enjoy your journey. It does get easier and after you are banded you don't have a choice, but to follow the plan.

Thanks for the replies. A friend of mine was banded 9/27 and she went on a pig out binge too. Her doctor almost didn't let her have the surgery because of the weight she had gained. When she told me this it kinda scared me. I was sitting here thinking, if I've made it this far with out shoveling this crap into my mouth, I can go another few weeks. I ate a few pieces of candy and frankly, I get sick to my stomach when I eat all of it. I don't really even know why I buy this junk. Right now I am looking at all this crap and I don't even want it. You think I'd be able to go over to my roommate and say, "here take this...I dont want it". But no...what I did, stuck it in my closet for later. I don't know if I want it or if it's just an old bad habbit that I am trying to hang on to. For now...it will stay where it is. If I don't eat it (hopefully that will be the case) then more power to me. If I break down and stuff my face then I'll be walking that off before surgery. Good luck to all you over eaters pre-banding out there. I know I'll need it for now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
