Cottage Cheese

Recommended Posts

Silly question but is cottage cheese measured by weight or volume? My guide says I can have 4oz of cottage cheese but I'm not sure how to measure it.

I measure everything by weight, though I do think the container of cottage cheese claims "1/2 cup" is a serving, too.

i would say by weight but could be wrong. If you measure out by weight and volume is there much difference in the portion size?

you measure by weight, but is pretty equivalent by volume. 2 Tbsp = 2 oz of cottage cheese also = 2 oz by weight

For cottage cheese it could be either. :) Clear as mud right? Welcome to my hell!!!!

I do everything by weight, but I also stick it in a measuring cup to doublecheck my volume limits of 1cup by volume per meal (or whatever the limit was for that healing period). The MFP says that 2% Daisy Cottage Cheese is 1serving of 1/2cup volume (which weighs 113g=4oz by weight, which also happens to equal 4oz by volume=1/2cup).

I EXHAUSTED everyone and I do mean EVERYONE here on BP as well as my RD with questions like: "Is this by weight or volume?" "Do I weigh this one?" "This has got to be by weight right?"

LOL. The answer to this is some things are 4oz by volume. Others are 4oz by weight. I tend to especially do Protein by weight.

I was in grammar school during the period of the failed U.S. conversion to the metric system that was supposed to take place from 1975 until 1985. We are more confused now than we've ever been. LOL

Good times! I do have to say though, that I ended up using more metric stuff than I ever thought I would. LOL!

And, I thought I could snooze my way through the math class that taught us how to use a ruler an the increments on it...thinking, "I will never use this crap in a meeeeeeeeellllllliiiiioooooonnnnn years." LOL. Jokes on me. I'm a graphic artist and use 1/64 ths daily. Bi*ch. LOL.

I was listening to a comedian that was from the 80 something graduating class talk about typing class. He thought he would never in a million years need to learn typing but look at us now! LOL... We never factored in the whole possibility of computer keyboards playing such a huge roll in our lives. To most people in the U.S., the metric system is a foreign language. HAHAHA!

This could be an entire thread Things in School I thought I WOULD NEVER use! And I'll give you a quasi-one. I wanted to take Basic and Business Arithmetic, "oh No" Said my High School guidance YOU are college material, so I took Algebra 1 and 2, Plane and Solid Geometry, and Calculus plus Physics. I am now a semi-retired housewife in Ohio, exactly what good does my slide rule( which I still have-seldom throw things away) do ME now? I'm like the lady who told her bank "I can't be OVERDRAWN, see I still have checks Left!" I might be wise but penny foolish!😪💰💦

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
