Weight gain!!

Recommended Posts

I am currently 11 months post op and sitting at 56kgs and pre op I was 102kgs. I find that no matter what I do or what I try I can’t stop the weight loss and I’m starting to feel and look unhealthy. Has any had this issue and tried any shakes or supplements to help gain a few kgs, because my food consumption is so low there is no chance of myself gaining a few kgs back that way

Have you tried to increase your good fat intake? Perhaps adding some flax seed oil or avocado to shakes or smoothies. Fatty fish such as salmon, calorie dense foods such as nuts.

If you are eating three main meals a day, do four perhaps or increase snack portions.

Are you currently eating low or no fat items such as yogurt, milk etc? If you are then switching back to the full fat varieties could be a good place to start. You won't be eating any more and if you find you gain too much its easy to switch back again.

I’m lactose intolerant, so other than soy or lactose free products I don’t have much else, I feel as though my calorie intake is just so low, I understand our portion sizes become much smaller but I feel as though I’m a new born child with how little my body can handle

Start eating high calorie foods, fruits, breads, starches. If calories in = total calories burned, then you won't lose weight. Have you talked to your nutritionist about this yet?

Lots of lactose intolerant people can tolerate whey Proteins isolates, because isolates are highly filtered to remove lactose. It's the Protein Concentrates that lactose intolerant people REALLY want to stay away from.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
