Hi everyone,

this is our fifth week in the Couch to 5K program. This is designed to be a 9 week program, but you can repeat weeks (as I will be doing) until you are comfortable moving on. However, you are not supposed to skip weeks.

It has been strongly suggested by trainers and runners alike to NOT run on consecutive days.

More information can be found here: Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan

Attached are the first thru fifth weeks in detail

Anyone is free to join, no matter where we are!! ;)

This is the place to check in and support with each other and see how it is going.

What week are you doing?

How is it going for you? Is it too difficult / too easy?

Any comments??

Good luck everyone!

oops- missed that yall moved on to this thread ;) that's what I get for skimming and not reading the thread titles!

saw this addressed briefly by one person- when yall were starting, what did you do for speed?? I was doing 4 mph on the treadmill - definitely slow but dont' know if I should do that for week 1 (which I'm going to repeat) before going to week 2 or try to boost the speed a bit at first

suggestions??

(my heiny doesn't know what the hell happened to it. The eliptical doesn't work it like running does happy.gif ) __________________

Well, I've been having some work problems, my boss is being really annoying, not in the work part of work problems, we just bicker a lot and act live we've been married for 50 years and he's working my last nerve. I was so frustrated about it on friday that I left early and I have been thinking about it all weekend, not like me at all...And I have to start working overtime. So I'm going to have to start sneaking the running in somewhere, but I'm not sure where. I may only be able to do it 2 times a week. But hey, I guess its better than nothing...

I usually do the walking at 3.6/3.7mph and the jogging at 4.0-4.2mph. I did week 1 twice, the first week walking at 3.6mph and running 3.9mph and then the second week I walked 3.7 and jogged 4.0mph.

I find that I would rather go a little slower to make it through the whole 20 min. of intervals than burn myself out too early. If I ran any quicker I may not make it through.

Hope that helped a little. Good luck!

Thanks ya'll- that does help! I wasn't certain if the goal at first is to just get running/jogging whatever you want to call it then to work on speed or to do both at the same time

:)

jmcambra- sorry about the work woes!

When i started i was walking 3.6 and jog 4.8. Did that for 3 weeks and killed my knees! way to fast. I thought i was going to have to give it all up. Found if i walk 3.5 and jog 4.4 i could get thorugh it and i would be able to walk the next day.

ok..i was exremely nervous starting week 4 today. I got though it ok!! I can tell i have come along way in 4 weeks (did week 3 twice). 5 mins is a long time to jog but slowing it down REALLY helped. I figure i can pick up the speed much later on.

Feeling a little glum because despite running and spinning I haven't lost any weight in over 2 weeks. I know patience, muscle tone etc. but it is getting me down anyway. I have an appointment for another fill on Friday and I am hoping it will get my portions in control. This will be my third fill - have had one basically every 4 weeks since 6 weeks after surgery.

Karen---i HEAR YOU! ....i get that way too. im going for my 3rd fill tomorrow.

My wife (banded also) said it took her to her 4th fill and EVERYTHING changed. the first 3 minths she had a hard time losing. After the right fill its FALLING off now. Hang in there. It takes a while to get there but keep exercisg the whole time.

i feel like i have been same weight for 3 weeks now. Its really hard to tell. i count my belt loops. That helps.

Have to get a new belt soon!....hmm hom about one of the glittery silver ones...look good with my buisness clothes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
