Dr. Marina Kurian - Just Set -- NYU w/ Dr. Kurian!

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

This is my first post (so forgive me if it takes a bit to figure out how things work around here) although I've been snooping around for quite some time now. ;)

I'm 28 and when they weighed me Friday at my surgical consult I was 299...but that was with my clothes on! heehee. I was diagnosed with PCOS 8 years ago. I am hoping that with some weight loss my PCOS symptoms will begin to reverse. Just curious if there are any others out there with PCOS that have had success with the lap band. I'm prepared for the weight loss to take a little longer...is this found to be true?

I'm scheduled for surgery Jan 7th with Dr. Kurian at NYU. My insurance denied me at first, but they are reviewing it now. That gives me a little hope, I'm praying they come through or pay a portion of the cost, otherwise I will be self pay. But I figure the benefits down the line will be worth the hefty price tag.

I know Dr. Kurian just moved over to NYU this summer from Lenox Hill. She's very sweet and I've been impressed with her thus far. Just curious if she's performed any of yalls surgeries?

Thanks for any input!! Looking forward to getting to know yall!

Welcome Comepickmeup!

I too have PCOS. Even though I'm still fairly new to the lap band, I can tell you first hand that weight loss has helped me with PCOS already. I lost about 50 lbs a few years ago and since then I have had a regular cycle every month and I have a son that is 20 months old. So if 50lbs can do that, imagine what 100+ pounds can do. I hope your insurance comes through for you, but if it doesn't, this will be well worth the price. Good luck and God bless!

Lovely meeting you! Congrats on your son!

It's wonderful hearing from people that have gone through the surgery and get their first hand accounts. I have read around that the lap-band is successful in PCOS patients, but it's reassuring to hear it from real people and not just some study. I look forward to my periods being regular and not having to take provera to jump start them! I won't know what to do with myself.

Good Luck to you as well! Looks like you are off to fabulous start!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
