I have asked this question before and didn't get many responses. I had the sleeve over 5 years ago. I lost 90#. I have gained back half over the past 2 years due to binge eating, prednisone, and the fact that my surgeon NEVER told me I would need to live on 1000 calories a day. When I went back to see him about 6 months ago he told me its too late and will not be able to lose weight anymore!!!!! I am really frustrated and struggling.

I'm sorry you are struggling,

Many people here have had weight gain. It's not too late. A good start is finding a good therapist to address your binge eating issues. Medication issues are between you and the prescribing physician. If you don't have a dietician research for one in your area.

Also, while incredibly difficult...it IS possible to lose weight while taking prednisone. But it is a drug that carries a blessing and a curse. Sorry you've had this experience.

It isn't too late. But it will be slow going and hard and will take re-dedication to change in MANY areas!!! And I second the idea to get a therapist and a nutritionist to help you while finding a medical team to support your efforts.

There is nothing stopping you from starting over. Do a "pre-op" prep diet, then fast for a day or 2 pretending you just had surgery, then start your recovery post-op diet from scratch. It's hard, but it's totally doable, seriously NOTHING is stopping you from starting over.

Also check into Intermittent Fasting (IF), the science is sound and, it's free. There are a few of us on here doing it and I can say with 100% certainty that it has helped me out drastically. I was getting stalled hard around 230-235. I picked up IF and I'm down to 210 now... it's gotten a bit harder overall, but, 20-25 lbs of extra weight loss I can attribute to IF.

I agree, start over with a clean bariatric diet. Then throw in some Intermittent Fasting and watch the weight fall off.

I also agree there is absolutely a way to still lose weight and it's certainly not too late. That's ridiculous.

I had surgery almost seven years ago and lost a little over a hundred in a year. I would say my sleeve was a great teaching tool for about eighteen months. And I suggest using that time the best you can. That said I had a gain at about five years post op.

I was 238 pre, 219 at surgery and got to 129 in about eighteen months. By year five I got back up to 160 and realized I was breaking rules, eating around my sleeve and not as dedicated as I was before. I got scared and refocused.

I got serious again and I've now been under 120 for awhile 114 this morning but it bounces about four pounds easily for me based on Fluid. I am 5'6

It's never too late to go back to basics and the good habits you had right after surgery. All that knowledge is power and you are in control of this journey. Remember why you did this and channel that energy. We all need to refocus at times and get serious again when we start gaining it's a clue you let something change. Change it back. Best of luck, you can do this don't be discouraged. Refocus and enjoy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
