I'm a mommy too. I have children and honestly I feel a little guilty and scared because of the surgery. But seeing everyone's responses makes me feel much better 😊

Yes everyone’s support makes me feel a little bit better. Good luck!

I have two little girls - 3 and 1. High energy is an understatement! We try to reduce sweets and junk - and they love my Protein Snacks. I have family and friends ready to help after my surgery. My date isn’t confirmed yet - just making better selections while I wait!

Yes that’s true I’m also making those changes in my household. Thanks and good luck!

I had surgery 10/19/18 with a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old. The first few days they were away at my moms house and then they came home and my husband had 2 days off work. Tomorrow will be 6 days post op and I feel confident I can take care of them by myself tomorrow. My house looks like a disaster because I haven’t had time/energy to clean up but everyone is safe/healthy/and feed.

That’s good to hear. I also will have my moms support thank goodness for that. Wishing you a speedy recovery

I have 2 boys that were 6 and 7 when I had my surgery in April. Yes, our kids need us and depend on us for life to life things, but if we don't get better we might not be here permanently. I told my boys exactly what I was doing and they went to my appt with me to see the surgeon. I call them my little ducks because they follow me everywhere. I homeschool and my boys are literally with me constantly. I wanted them to know mommy was getting healthy. They told me I didn't need surgery because I was beautiful the way I was. But I had to tell them that my heaviness is what makes me check my sugar and give myself insulin, etc. I was selfish to be unselfish. This isn't a cosmetic surgery, this is a surgery to help you change your life and become healthier for yourself and your babies.

That’s true. Thanks for the encouragement!

My boys are 10 and 4, they need a mommy that’s healthy, happy, active, and feels good about herself. It was an adjustment at first, with me being so tired, but they soon fell right in line being my helpers, they help prepare meals, shop, plan, etc. They love us happy ❤️

I have a little girl who is 4 and is special needs and I get the worry I am worried if she run into an emergency early on but I have put a lot of support in place and ultimately I need to be able to live and I need to be healthy to take care of her and do that. We can do this!

I had these same fears with 11,9 and 3 year old at home but everything worked out. I’d say the first 2 weeks it’s going to be all about you and trying to stay hydrated but after that it just goes back to normal! I’m three months out now and one of the best decisions of my life! My boys notice my weight loss and are excited for me. Good luck, you won’t regret it!

Hey guys, so I’m scheduled for nov 7. I’m a mom of two beautiful, energetic girls one is 6 and one is going to be 2. I’m having my worries of course about the surgery my biggest concern are my babies. I need this for me but I’m feeling a little selfish because I know they need me too. Just wanted to hear advice and other mommies that have been in this position, how was it, recovering and attending to them and everything in between.

I had two younger girls when I got sleeved too. I struggled with the same thoughts you are having and of course worried what if something happened to me during surgery. This was by far my biggest fear and issue prior to my surgery. The surgery went great, the recovery was relatively fast and less pain than I expected. It was rough about three days and quickly got better, but I had lower energy. It gets much better. Don't stress too much.

What I didn't realize at the time was this was a wonderful gift for them in the end. I knew I needed to get healthier and fitter to do more things. I knew I needed to lose weight to feel better about myself and enjoy life more. I felt like these things were all just so selfish. What I failed to understand at the time was what a gift I was giving them as well. See they were getting a much happier, active mom who was now focused on a healthy lifestyle. That benefited the entire family. They got a mom who was now willing to show up, be present, volunteer at school and be happy about life. They got a mom with a more positive and grateful mindset who stopped looking for the negative. They got a mom happy to get up in the morning, hang and play with them. I had energy and confidence now. I was teaching them how to live. I was teaching them in a much better way now. You see I didn't realize it then, but this sleeve has made me a better person, friend, mom and wife. I just thought I'd lose weight. It'll be ok and you can't make a better decision, I promise you. Cheers

I am still in the "6 months of hoop jumping before I can have surgery" phase... But I am a single mom with a special needs (emotional/self control issues) 8 year old....

This is my biggest concern too:

What if I die?! (Very unlikely, I know, but still scary!)

What if I am totally out of commission for 6 weeks???

My kids sleeps in my bed and kicks me all night (on accident)... This is a concern.

I live alone, my family is local and helpful when I am sick or injured... Still... I live alone and am 100% responsible for a child.

So, anyway, this thread is very helpful and keep the mommy encouragement coming.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
