Omg! 3 weeks out and severe acid reflux! I had it before surgery but it was under control! Now it’s terrible! I’m taking my meds and it’s still bad! I almost aspirated tonight! WTF??!!??

Do you have a band or a sleeve? Reflux is often a side effect of both. Your Dr will probably put you in PPIs and hopefully that will solve it although this can be an ongoing issue

Are you on an PPI like omeprazole, how about rantidine or famodine? Got to stop that reflux, the last thing you want is an irritated esophagus, if you get one of those, it is not a favorable sign! Gosh you're only 3 weeks post, you're healing, I wouldn't wish it on you!😨

My surgeon automatically sent me home with a year refills on omeprazole. I don't even have to take it. I get acid reflux from time to time, but nothing like the times I was pregnant. I was so scared getting the sleeve because I had heard the reflux was worse. But so far, I'm doing good.

You might want to bring it up with your surgeon. They might recommend a scope to see if you have a hiatal hernia, especially if it's bad enough that you're worried you could be aspirating. Aspiration pneumonitis from acid can be really bad.

I was scoped by my gastroenterologist before surgery and he never said anything about that. I’ve aspirated and ended up in the hospital before that’s why am freaking out. I’m losing all faith in all my doctors. I just seem to be that person that has that rare case of everything.

Found out I have 6 weeks more of the stinking omeprazole and then I am free. Saw dietician , gave me my new diet for after my stricture opening, Dietician optimistic maybe I should be too? And since they said after 2 months you can frequent restaurants, on the back of his card is my disclaimer to get reduced amounts of food.< br /> THIS PATIENT HAS HAD GASTRIC SURGERY. PLEASE ALLOW HER TO ORDER HALF-PORTIONS, ORDER FROM CHILDREN'S OR SENIOR MENU. THANK YOU.

I had reflux before surgery. After VSG I had reflux and my doctor told me to take over the counter medication for it. I’m now 3 1/2 months post op and no more reflux. I don’t take anything. The surgery healed me.

I also had a history of reflux before sleeve surgery. At about 3 weeks, I started getting heartburn and I noticed that I was waking up with sore throat all the time (sign of nighttime reflux). I started taking Nexium (or generic equivalent) and most symptoms went away. Biggest intervention for me was that I started sleeping on an inclined bed. Google Inclined Bed Therapy (IBT). It made a HUGE difference to the point where I will likely try to wean off of the Nexium. Highly recommend IBT.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
