What do people do for dates that don’t involve food?

Recommended Posts

Almost all my dates with my husband for the past 13 years have centered around food. I had surgery 11 days ago and obviously can’t go to a restaurant so we have just been sitting home. Does anyone have any date ideas that don’t include food??

Go hiking, walk instead of driving somewhere. Go to concerts, do you share musical tastes? Go fishing or something he enjoys and hopefully he will reciprocate. If not , YOU TRIED!

Thanks for your reply. No quite up for hiking yet, but I will definitely put that on my list for the future. We do love live music - but usually when we go it’s to a bar. I would be fine with going to a bar and being the designated driver - but he thinks I won’t be happy if he’s drinking and I’m not (it wouldn’t bother me!)

Say I really don't mind the no drinking and being with you bribes me more joy than booze ever could!

Movies, mini golf, bowling, beach, romantic walk, escape room

Movies, paint night, walks, sight seeing, museums, shopping, going to gym together.

Turn date nights into day dates. For my husband and I, our dates still very much revolve around food. I just eat differently. Your life doesn’t have to change, just the way you eat.

Have you and your hubby take little sheets of paper, you each write down some date ideas with a percentage of them being new things you’ve never experienced. Each week, you pick a piece of paper and plan to do it that week. It’s fun!

I had surgery roughly a week before you did, and I've dragged my spouse out to walk with me most days since then. It's been good. We've had a chance to enjoy some local parks (I'm not above driving a couple of miles to go on a more interesting walk :)) and to talk to each other. Pick parks that you know have benches to start out. Being able to take breaks now and then has helped me a lot!

Thanks so much for all your great ideas! I hadn’t thought much about this before my surgery (I was mostly focused on my “freaking out” and on what I would be eating/drinking at the different stages)! I do love the idea of “day dates” instead of at night because then we can do more active stuff - especially after I get the “all clear” from my surgeon. For now walking does seem like a good thing - as long as their are benches as CrankyMagpie suggested! Thanks again! You guys are the best!! ❤️❤️

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
