Ate about five bites...but damn it was IMPOSSIBLY good!

Recommended Posts

Had lunch with my boss today and was put up to trying the Impossible Burger.

This thing is made from wheat and potato Protein, coconut oil and heme extracted from plant sources. Yep...a vegan friendly burger...that bleeds. Weird, eh?

But seriously...when the coconut oil sizzles on the grill and sears this stuff....and the irony heme tastes distinctly like grilled meaty juicy goodness... it tastes amazingly like real meat.

I took about five bites and was stuffed....but I took the rest home and my hubby thought I was kidding about it being real meat. He was shocked and thought it was delicious.

Yepper....I ate a few fries, too. And about two inches of a diet coke. With lunch. LOL....all naughty, I know. But my weight is slipping down again, and I'm trying to get my calories up to 1700 or so to maintain.

Life is balance and a good veggie burger for a celebration lunch is something I'm just gonna do now and then:) I had mine cooked well-done. The idea of a bloody veggie burger was just too weird. LOL:)

Here's a pic of my impossible burger, and a video about how they're magically made!

That looks so yummy and you hardly put a dent in it, it’s ok to enjoy something off of the plan every now and then...I think it makes you feel normal...you ate in moderation...I would love to know what brand the turkey burger is, I’ve only tried the Boca burgers and that was before surgery...they are just ok.

It's not turkey...it's an impossible burger...totally vegan. But I swear it tastes like beef. Really good!

Man, if I looked at this pic a hundred pounds ago....at what would fill me up...I'd have thought I was kidding.

My husband and daughter are always surprised when I say I'm done. There's something that feels so good about eating something really great...and saying...I'm done. I couldn't do that before. I always had to finish it off. These days? I can say....five bites is enough, I feel full and good, time to put it in a box. There is such a victory in that. It's joyful. For the first time in my life I feel like food and I have a truce.

I try to make good choices for my regular day to day diet...but on special occasions I just try to eat a reasonable amount of whatever sounds good.

So far...it's working really great. Am below goal and feeling fantastic:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
