I've seen similar items for sale on Amazon and Ebay. They are great reminders, but you must be disciplined yourself to continue your drinking throughout the day.

Nice! I love the "REFILL", how large is that? looks like it *might* be 24-32 oz. If so, that's a good start, but to maximize your fat loss, you REALLY want to try to hit 128+ a day if you can.

Just out of curiosity...did your nutritionist recommend 128 oz of water/day or was that a number you came up with? That just seems like SO much Water to me, way more then I could ever drink.

It's actually from "more current" research based on required amounts of Water that the body actually needs. Even the older "3 liters of water" requirement is 101.442 oz of water a day. It seems like a lot, until you reach it.. then it's not really that much.

"The report did not specify exact requirements for water, but set general recommendations for women at approximately 2.7 liters (91 ounces) of total water -- from all beverages and foods -- each day, and men an average of approximately 3.7 liters (125 ounces daily) of total water."

http://www.nationalacademies.org/hmd/Reports/2004/Dietary-Reference-Intakes-Water-Potassium-Sodium-Chloride-and-Sulfate.aspx

These totals are for healthy, non-WLS patient, humans. I stress trying to hit 128 oz because of the added water requirements WLS patients need in order to properly process fat. There is such thing as "too much" water, however, 128 oz is quite far from that "too much" level.

"Prolonged physical activity and heat exposure will increase water losses and therefore may raise daily Fluid needs, although it is important to note that excessive amounts can be life-threatening."

Water intoxication (hypronatremia) occurs when one consumes more than 27-33 oz in 1 hour, this is due to the kidneys max elimination rate. The kidneys can eliminate about 5-7 gallons of water a day (20-28 liters). So as you can see, 128 oz is very far from too much water.

The science supports 128 oz a day as a smart goal for proper hydration AND fat loss.

WLS patients need more water to support fat loss, if you aren't meeting your bodies daily minimum to meet hydration levels, fat loss will not occur or will suffer greatly.

There is evidence that simply consuming 1 gallon of water a day, without making any other changes to exercise, diet, or any other habits (in an intact human *aka non-WLS) for 30 days will results in weight loss due to increased hydration and fat processing.

My data and advice typically always comes from factual, scientific evidence, research or confirmed sources. I'm not typically in the habit of providing information based on hearsay, rumor or things that have been made up with no basis in fact or with no scientific evidence to support them.

My advice to try to hit 128+ oz a day, is factually sound based on current scientific research and evidence. I must point out that I'm not saying you *HAVE* to meet that daily, only that you should be trying to meet that daily. it really does help, not only to keep hunger in check, but to ensure proper toxin flushing, which WLS patients really need with all the fat loss as well, AND it ensures that your body has the best environment for fat removal, processing and elimination.

Thank you! I’m going to check out those articles on my lunch hour. I was just interested because 128 just seem like such a random number I just had to ask : )

If it sounds pretentious, you are reading too much into it. I don't generally type with any inflection or emotion, just facts as they are. No need to go looking for something to be offended by here. Just the text on the screen and that's it. I'm on the spectrum, so, anything you are reading into my words are not my intention or purpose. I don't typically type with hidden meaning.

I never have thought you pretentious, but then I am a Spectrum sister, so your statements and research always ring true. I value you on Bariatric Pal.

Id love to get to 128oz. Before surgery I drank a lot of Water. I’m 11 days post surgery and have gotten to 72. @matt z How long did it take you to build to that and did you have a strategy you used to get there? Appreciate any tips.
Thanks!

Dumb question but I’m new here and looking down the gastric bypass barrel. How in the world can you guzzle so much Water when your stomach is the size of an egg, if that? Does the pouch immediately empty or something? If so, are you constantly having diarrhea? 😰

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
