Can we take Protein Shakes first week post op ?

Depends on your surgery, and depending on how your surgery has gone. If I assume that your screen name hints at your surgery, you should be on liquids for a while post op, so "shakes" might be out of the question for a bit as they are part of the full liquid phase, BUT you can consume Protein Water style Proteins as they are "clear" and are typically allowed in the first phase of your intake post op. But as always, check with your surgeon, surgical team and/or nutritionist.

It's best to follow the plan set forth by your surgical team. My Clear Liquids were for 1 day post op and then I was allowed to go to Protein Shakes. But personally I remained on Bone Broth because my new pouch tolerated it better than the shakes. Most importantly, listen to the plan outlined by your team.

What does your program instructions say? I was on them as they are the most effective means of getting the requisite Protein in early on, even for those of us not on a strictly liquid diet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
