1 week post-op...Feeling good, just sick of the liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 week post-op and I'm doing well. The only pain is soreness around my incisions. I'm getting in all my protiens & liquids and walking everyday. My only issue is that I'm SICK of the liquid diet. Counting down the days to some mushy foods!

Just keep telling yourself that this is temporary and it will pass. It might pass like a kidney stone, but it will pass. I had the same issue. I couldn't wait to chew something, anything.

It gets better. Boy does it suck for a few though, but just remember, you are working on rebuilding the foundation of the rest of your life... it's going to take some work, effort and discomfort, but it's 100% worth it to make sure you get the job done right.
Hang in there!

I promise it will pass! I was on liquids for a week after my surgery. It seems like the week went by very quickly. I stocked up on popsicles and broth! My mother-in-law even made me some homemade broth. It flew by. Also I think I was in so much pain the first week after that I really didn't want anything.

Good lord, I am over liquids! I keep eyeballing pureed foods and am so ready to put something with flavor and sustenance in my mouth! I'm 7 days in on my liquid only diet. I have 5 more days before I see doc for the okay to move to next stage.

heaven save me, i haven't pooped in a week because of only liquids.

Can’t help with the sustenance- but the one thing that really helped me through the liquid stage was getting wonton Soup from my favorite Chinese restaurant. I just had the broth but it was so good and “familiar” which for some reason made a big difference! Good luck!!

Making homemade Soups / broths helps add variety to your liquid diet. During my first few weeks of liquids, I either cooked, went to the local grocer with a hot bar with variety of soups or got something at a local restaurant. I would just make sure to strain and go for liquids or ask for minimal "chunks".

Constipation is quite normal a laxative or milk of magnesia will be your cure in these early days unless you can find another way to add Fiber into diet

I’m with you on this I am halfway through week 1 post op on liquids, just so thankful my doc allows SF yogurt and SF pudding for a little variety, still tough though. Can’t wait for purée lol!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
