Soup options for liquid phase

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just thought I’d post some Soup recommendations for weeks 2-3 post sleeve diet. I’ve found that Amy’s organic mushroom bisque and butternut squash go down really easy. I was able to do 4-5 spoonfuls over about 30 minutes with ease. I couldn’t get anymore down. They also have lentil Soups that I’m eager to try when I get to the soft food phase. I finally feel satisfied after a week of mostly feeling hungry and like Protein Drinks were not cutting it and left a bad aftertaste. Enjoy!

You can also blend those Soups that might be a "soft food" Soup and make it suitable for the liquid phase.

Amy’s Soups are nice, I’m near end of my liquid phase and still can’t keep my 4oz warm past 10 mins. I don’t have a mug warmer so I’m eating cold food and that turns me off what I’m eating. Guess I will be eating cold food for a while

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking about making black bean Soup when I get to that stage. I’m going in Tuesday for my sleeve!

I love chili. There’s an awesome turkey chili recipe on the Bariatric pal site that I can’t wait to try. Hopefully, in a couple of weeks I’ll be in that phase. But I love that I’m losing. I miss real food though a little.

Oh I know. That is the annoying part. I hate reheating my food. It does seem as if my ouch prefers cold food though. Trying to figure out how to make a smoothie with little foam.

Cool. I think I’ll try that with the lentil and kale so I can have a different taste.

I just tried the mushroom bisque for dinner, strained of all veggies and rice (I'm on full liquids). It was the first tasty thing I've had in a week, but sadly my stomach said "Uh-uh, no way". I started feeling lousy as I ate, so I put it in a container in the fridge to try again in day or two. It isn't as fatty as a bisque normally is, so I'm not sure why it was causing a problem. I hope I can tolerate it tomorrow because it was good. No Protein through.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
