For my insurance, the only weight that counted for approval was my first visit to the surgeon. I have Cigna. You should ask. Good luck!

Through my team, they want your BMI to drop as low as possible before surgery because it's often easier to lose more and keep it off after the surgery. As far as I know your starting weight/BMI is all that counts, otherwise most insurances wouldn't demand that you lose as much weight as possible on a monitored diet beforehand.

One of the things that was asked during my physiological evaluation was, have you ever lost a lot of weight only to gain it back plus some? Of course the answer was yes as is with most people seeking WLS. I think part of what determines weather you are eligible for WLS is if you have ever been part of the yo-yo dieting club. I have a feeling with all things considered before approval, you could probably get down to your goal weight and still get the surgery, especially if you have comorbidities.

I only had to go with the starting BMI and the doctor wanted some weight loss because it makes it easier on your liver and for the surgeon to move around inside. I had a 2 week liquid pre op diet.

I was excited and nervous. I was just like you and I was thinking I won't pass my psych eval, I'll lose too much weight before during the pre op liquid diet, I didn't weigh enough even though my insurance already approved it, that once my Dr got in me there would be a reason not to finish, etc. I was a nervous wreck up until I woke up from surgery.

Do you have a date yet? I'm happy I had the surgery, but it's been a roller coaster emotionally, physically, and everything in between.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
