Hard time getting protein in! Help please!

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 weeks out. I'm having no issues getting Water in, but eating is a whole other story. I'm really struggling. I'm lucky if I eat one small Okios 15g Protein yogurt a day. I have tried new foods, but 95% of things tend to cause pain in my stomach area, and then about 10 minutes later, I'm vomiting. I'm almost scared to even eat anymore. Does anyone have suggestions for me? Do you all use GENEPRO or Isopure? Yogurt and Potatoes are really the only thing my stomach likes. I'm getting scared because I know my body is not getting enough nutrients.

I use Isopure, gold standard and sometimes muscle milk powders, I stay away from genepro... lawsuits and all.

Have you looked into any of the Protein liquids that are more like Water? Protein2o, or Isopure RTD? might help you out, if you can drink liquids with no issue, then these thin Protein Drinks might be what you need right now.

Are you on a PPI? At 6 weeks most of your Protein should come from natural foods. You may just have to stick to soft foods, but I would definitely suggest speaking with your surgical team and NUT to ensure there isn't a medical issue.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes.

Many experience problems drinking protein shakes. I hated them. But in the beginning I drank them, three 16-ounce protein shakes a day, in order to meet my protein requirements. You do not have to like protein shakes only tolerate them. There are many varieties of protein shakes available today. Experiment until you can find one you can tolerate.

I used Muscle Milk Light (Vanilla Creme) powder blended with Water and a half a banana. That worked for me. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, you might try premixed Isopure.

Without sufficient protein, your body will scavenge protein from other areas of your body, such as your muscles. Protein is extremely important after surgery as its job in the body is to build and maintain tissues including your body's major organs and skeletal muscles. Protein deficiency, when continued over a long period of time can cause a disease known as protein caloric malnutrition. Common symptoms are poor healing, fatigue, Hair loss and muscle wasting. Immediate post op, protein promotes healing of the staple line and incisions.

Are you eating slowly? Chewing foods thoroughly? During mealtimes these are things that can cause discomfort.

Are you drinking during meals? That can definitely cause pain and should be avoided.

Have you tried cottage cheese or eggs?

I would stay away from potatoes.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
